The Mysterious Case of the Missing Homework
It was a typical Monday morning at Maplewood Elementary School. The bell rang, signaling the start of school day, and students rushed to their classrooms. Among them was Lily, a diligent fifth-grader known for always completing her homework on time. However, as she settled into her seat, she realized something was amiss - her math homework was missing from her backpack.
Panic set in as Lily frantically searched through her bag, hoping to find the missing assignment. She checked under her textbooks, in the side pockets, and even shook out her lunchbox, but the homework was nowhere to be found. Her classmates noticed her distress and offered to help look for it, but Lily was determined to solve the mystery on her own.
During recess, Lily retraced her steps from the previous evening when she had completed the math assignment. She remembered sitting at the kitchen table, pencil in hand, working through the problems diligently. After finishing, she placed the homework in her backpack along with her other school supplies. Everything seemed normal, so where could it have gone?
As the school day went on, Lily couldn't focus on her lessons. Her mind kept drifting back to the missing homework, and she couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. She knew that not turning in her assignment would not only affect her grades but also disappoint her teacher, Mrs. Thompson, who always praised Lily for her hard work.
After school, Lily decided to visit the one place she hadn't checked yet - her locker. As she turned the dial and opened the door, a wave of relief washed over her. There, tucked behind her water bottle, was the missing math homework. Lily let out a sigh of relief and quickly grabbed the assignment, eager to turn it in the next day.
The following morning, Lily arrived at school early to hand in her homework to Mrs. Thompson. The teacher smiled warmly and commended Lily for her dedication to finding the missing assignment. Lily beamed with pride, knowing that she had overcome the challenge and learned the importance of being organized and responsible.
From that day on, Lily made sure to double-check her backpack before leaving for school, ensuring that her homework was always safely tucked away. The mysterious case of the missing homework had taught her a valuable lesson in accountability and perseverance, making her a better student in the process. And as she sat in class, listening to Mrs. Thompson's lesson on fractions, Lily couldn't help but feel grateful for the experience that had taught her to always do her homework.

I was supposed to catch-up on my missing homework today
I have two lab reports missing, as well as every assignment in a different class, and all the workbook pages in a third class. I keep trying to find the time to work on them but they just keep piling up and they just seem so huge and growing and they terrify me. Today--actually, yesterday, I was going to get it all done. I was going to pull an all-nighter if I had to. I left school early (one class was not meeting, another was going to be review) got home at around three. I immediately went to my studying spot to get to work and just... sat there. Checking Reddit. Checking Facebook. Checking Youtube. Trying to find out if there was some magical way to un-f*ck myself. I could have just called it a wash and went to sleep, but that'd be quitting!
So I continue to sit here. It's 4:30 AM now. I could have been done by now and/or sleeping in my bed but I was too busy being miserable. Class starts in 6 hours and what do I have to show for it? Nothing. Now my workload is so large it's become self-sustainable. I won't check what assignments I need to do because I can't bear to see all those 0's, so I don't. Then I just get more 0's. "Didn't you read the syllabus?" yeah, it's right next to all the notifications saying "MISSING", and I can't remind myself of yet more failures, only keep avoiding and pretending it's not there.
I want to make deals with professors to get these things in late for something but now I worry that I still won't do it, and I believe it too.
I don't understand, it's my final year! I should be racing to the finish! Now I feel like I have to hide everything about school. That I've got to snatch letters from the mailbox, lie about seeing emails, lie to my girlfriend so she doesn't worry, lie to my mother so she doesn't disrupt my day with helpful yelling, lie to teachers when I said I was sick or how bad traffic was; lie about anything just to feel like I've got some breathing-room only to squander it by not doing anything.
I don't know what to do. It just feels like I'm doomed all the time during the school semester. I want to get those grades, to study, to turn in the assignments; I really do! I just... can't. And it's unbelievably frustrating. What's more frustrating is seeing others' reactions to it. They either seem to care but don't understand, care but don't hold me accountable, or just don't care. I hate how much everything is simultaneously my fault and not my fault from this damned brain of mine. And no, I don't know how others should treat me, which is frustrating too; because I can't even figure out how I should treat myself.
And the kicker to it all? That homework isn't even that hard. Basic bio questions found out in minutes, written answers to questions that are easy to pull out of your ass, really the only difficult ones are the reports but only because you have to arrange your data to be presentable. Sometimes I think I really am lazy, but I wouldn't have sat here this whole time if I were. I just want to do a simple task but 'nope' not gonna do it apparently.
I'd like to go to therapy for ADHD, but I really don't have any money to spend on appointments with a specialist. Hell, my meds are $50+ per month, with insurance . Just thinking about my lack of money makes the whole thing feel worse.
It's now 5:00 AM.
