Summer and winter are two vacations that are provided to the students. Winter vacations are short but provide us a great time to enjoy with our family and friends.

Winter vacations enhance the joy of the winter season

The winter season is loved by many of us. It is my favorite season and thus I eagerly wait for the arrival of this season. The winter vacations provided during this season enhance the joy of winters for me. The winter vacations are of a very short period therefore my family does not plan to go anywhere. I love spending this vacation at home. The vacations provide us the freedom to sleep till late hours in the morning. We also enjoy different types of dishes that are prepared in winter and served hot.  The festivals like New Year and Christmas are great times to enjoy during the winter vacation. I love to go for outings with my family and friends to enjoy and have fun on these occasions.

It is the best time for preparing for exams

The winter vacations are providing us ideal time for studies. We can study without the problem of sweating that is common during the summers. This helps us in getting good results during the exams. It is the last break that we get before the annual examinations and hence provide us a great time for relaxing along with studying.

We all get a good time enjoying ourselves with our family and friends during the winter vacations. This break is necessary as it gives us good rest and relaxation for a fresh start.

I have also provided a long essay that may ease the difficulty of the students and give them an idea to write an essay on this topic.

Long Essay on My Experience of the Winter Vacation (1050 Words)

Winter is a beautiful season with soothing weather conditions unlike the scorching heat of summers. The specialties of the winter season cannot be denied. A vacation in this season is not less than cheery on top for children as well as adults. It is a small vacation but people make pre-plans to make the best utilization of these holidays.

What are Vacations?

Vacations are the holidays that are granted to school students and working people. These vacations are a great time to rejoice with family, friends, and close ones. Children eagerly wait for these vacations. The summer vacations are of longer duration but the extremely hot weather conditions are prevailing at that time. The vacations of winter are only for two weeks but it is the best vacation for everyone.

This is the time to relax for students after the second-term examination in September. Children have a great love for winter vacations as they can freely sleep in the morning and do not have the tension of rising early for school. Most of us visit the areas of snowfall during our vacations and enjoy the beauty of this season in mountainous areas. We all make different plans in the vacations to make it a beautiful experience and spend it nicely.

My Experience of the Winter Vacation

Winter vacation is a very short break for all of us but is very important. I am very fond of this season so I eagerly wait for this vacation every year. Moreover, I feel very happy that I can eat different types of food served hot by my mother during the holidays. Last year we had a plan to visit our uncle’s place during the vacation. My uncle lives in a small village of Uttrakhand as therefore it was a very special journey for me.

I had heard that people visit the mountainous areas in winters to enjoy the snowfall in the mountains. They also enjoy different games like cycling, ice hockey, skating, etc. My uncle’s place was situated in a very small village but I was happy that I will be able to observe the beauty of winters in the mountains that I had previously read in the books.

Beginning of the Journey – My father booked the tickets earlier as at the last time the chance of getting confirmed seats reduces. On the expected date we started packing and left for the station to board our train. It took a total of 13 hours from our place to reach Uttrakhand. I was very curious to reach that place and observe the undulating beauty. Finally, we arrived and my uncle was there to receive us. I was very happy to see that place that was appearing like a mini paradise for a person like me living in the plains.

We arrived in the village and finally home. My uncle’s place was not very big but I loved that place very much. I got the company of my cousin brothers and sister over there and we were a total of five children. This vacation was going to be the most interesting one for me. The food was prepared there on fire by my aunt. We sat around the fire and enjoyed the warmth of it. The taste of food there was delicious as if I never have tasted this type of food earlier in my life.

The Beauty of the Place – We made plans for visiting the nearby areas in the morning. The pleasant weather conditions, view of snow-clad mountainous peaks all around made it an adorable place. I spent a lot of time walking and viewing the earnest beauty of nature. The atmosphere over there was very clean and least polluted. I also had seen snow-covered mountains and enjoyed the snowfall. It was the best destination for clicking beautiful pictures and therefore we clicked several pictures of my and uncles family together.

The next day we had a plan to visit different temples in the valley. It was astonishing that a small valley had so many temples there. I also noticed that people of that region were very good-natured. During the evening in the verandah area of the house, a bonfire was lit and we used to sit around the bonfire and play games. The preparation for the dinner would begin there in the evening only. Since it was a village so people used to sleep early and wake up early in the morning.

We stayed there for a week and every day we had plans to visit the beauty of areas nearby the village. We went to different places and clicked our beautiful pictures as a memory. I could not realize how the days passed so quickly and now it was time to get back home. I returned home with a sad heart but was satisfied with the thought that I had a great time during my last winter vacation.

Are Mountainous Regions the Best Places to Enjoy Winter Vacations?

The snowfall is regarded as the best part of the winter season. It makes the mountainous places like a paradise on earth. The snowfall commonly occurs only in the mountainous regions because these regions are experiencing very low temperatures due to elevation. People during the winter vacation make plans to visit these places with their family and friends to enjoy the beauty of winters and snowfalls. There are also many games that are played in the making of snowballs and snowman, ice skating, ice hockey, etc. These things are enjoyed by people worldwide. Many of us are eagerly waiting for the arrival of winters to enjoy these amazing things in winters.

Therefore it can be stated that the snowfall in the mountainous regions makes it a most adored place in winters. These places in winters can be seen visited by numerous tourists from different parts of the world. In India, the Northern region is blessed with the mountains and thus experiences a great rush of tourists in the winter season to enjoy the winters and snowfall.

It became an everlasting memory in my mind and I wish to visit the place every winter vacation. I enjoyed the company of my uncle’s children. The thought of the beauty of that place and the taste of the food served makes me happier from inside even today.

Essay on Winter Vacation in 150 Words

‘My winter vacation started right after Christmas, which was a two-week long vacation. Winter Vacation is my favourite time of the year, as we go New Year shopping, plan a trip to a hill station, and enjoy feasts like homemade cakes, cookies, pastries sweets, etc. On this winter vacation, I went to the city market to buy winter clothes with my parents. My father bought a denim jeans and a dungarees jacket for me, as were planning a trip to Mussoorie, the famous hill station.

Before me and my family left for our winter vacation trip, I completed all my winter homework and school assignments, so that I don’t have to worry about them after returning from our vacation. I took my brother’s help with mathematics homework and completed the remaining homework myself.

After that, we went on a 4-day family trip to Mussoorie, where we had quality time and played a lot. We were lucky enough to witness snowfall and my brother made a large snowman and snowballs and played for hours. Later, we went back to the hotel, where we had our tasty lunch and a bonfire. This was my this year’s winter vacation, which was full of excitement and surprises.’

Essay on Winter Vacation in 300 Words

‘Winter and summer vacations are my favourite time of the year, as we are free from academic pressure and don’t have to worry about school for the next couple of weeks. This year, my winter vacation started with an exciting activity, as I attended a wedding with my family in a different city. It was a short un-planned family trip where we had a lot of fun. Me and sister were excited to dine out at a highway restaurant, which was one of the memorable moments of my winter vacation. On our way to the wedding, I and my sister requested our father to stop at a highway restaurant, as were hungry.

Me and my sister ate a pizza and ice cream. After finishing our food, we were back on our way to the wedding. We greeted all our relatives and some of them gave us gifts. After returning from the wedding, I and my sister wanted to work on extracurricular activities, so our father enrolled us in dance classes. For the next 10 days, we were continuously working on our dancing skills, which was physically exhausting but interesting. As soon as we hit the dance floor, all we could do was wave our hands in the air and vibe with the music.

Another fun activity I did during this winter vacation was helping my mother with household chores. Our family has a custom of making Gajar ka Halwa every winter. I wanted to learn from my mother how it is prepared and the ingredients she uses to make it. Gajar ka halwa is one of my favourite sweets. Eating Gajar ka Halwa on a chilled January morning is one of my loving memories. I wish I could enjoy I little more of those family moments, where there is no school pressure, just fun and love. Now, I will plan for next year’s winter vacations, where me and my family can have a great time together.’

Short Essay On How I Spent My Winter Vacation

Winter vacation is a much-awaited break for students and a perfect opportunity to recharge and rejuvenate after a long and tiring academic year. This year, my winter vacation was quite memorable and enjoyable, and I spent it in several different ways.

I started my winter vacation by spending time with my family. We went on a road trip to visit my grandparents in a nearby town. It was a great opportunity to bond with my family and spend quality time with my grandparents, who I don’t get to see very often. We enjoyed playing board games, cooking together, and taking long walks in the countryside.

After spending a few days with my grandparents, I decided to use some of my vacation time to volunteer. I volunteered at a local animal shelter, where I helped care for the animals and assisted with cleaning and feeding. It was a humbling experience and gave me a chance to give back to my community and make a positive impact.

I also spent some of my winter vacation exploring new hobbies. I had always wanted to try ice-skating, so I took some lessons and spent several afternoons at the local rink. It was a challenging experience, but I was determined to improve, and by the end of the vacation, I was gliding across the ice with ease.

In addition to ice-skating, I also started learning a new language. I had always been interested in Spanish, so I took some online lessons and practiced speaking with native speakers. By the end of the vacation, I was able to hold simple conversations in Spanish and felt more confident in my ability to continue learning.

I rounded off my winter vacation by spending some time with my friends. We went to the movies, went ice-skating, and had a few sleepovers. Spending time with my friends was the perfect way to end my winter vacation and made me excited to get back to school and see my classmates.

In conclusion, my winter vacation was an enjoyable and memorable experience. I was able to spend quality time with my family, volunteer, learn new hobbies, and spend time with my friends. The vacation allowed me to recharge and rejuvenate, and I returned to school feeling refreshed and ready to tackle a new academic year.

Long Essay On How I Spent My Winter Vacation

It’s that time of year again – the winter season is in full swing, and for many of us it means vacation time! Whether you’re planning to spend your holiday on the beach or curled up by the fire with a good book, here’s an essay on how I spent my winter vacation – and hopefully it will give you some ideas for your own adventures!

Introduction

Winter vacation is a great time to enjoy the outdoors, spend time with family and friends, and relax. Here are some ideas on how to make the most of your winter vacation.

If you love the cold weather, take advantage of it by going ice skating, sledding, or skiing. You can also build a snowman or go snowmobiling.

If you prefer warmer temperatures, you can still enjoy the outdoors by taking a hike, going for a walk, or visiting a park. You can also curl up with a good book or watch a movie.

Don’t forget to spend time with your loved ones! Plan a game night, have a picnic, or go out to eat. You can also take this opportunity to catch up on some quality family time.

Reflection On My Winter Break

I had a great winter break! I got to spend time with my family and friends, and I was able to relax and recharge. I’m so grateful for the time off from school and work.

One of the highlights of my break was getting to go on a ski trip with my family. It was so much fun being out in the snow and spending time together. I also loved getting to try some new things, like snowboarding and cross-country skiing.

I also enjoyed just having some down time at home. It was nice to sleeping in, catching up on TV shows, and reading for pleasure. I definitely needed the break after a busy fall semester.

Overall, I had a great winter break and I’m feeling refreshed and ready to start the new year!

Activities I Enjoyed During My Vacation

I enjoyed many activities during my winter vacation, but some of my favorites were spending time with family and friends, skiing, and exploring new places.

Spending time with family and friends was great because I got to catch up on all the news and gossip. It was also nice to have some down time to relax and just enjoy each other’s company. Skiing was a lot of fun, even though I’m not the best at it. I loved feeling the wind in my face as I zoomed down the slopes. And finally, exploring new places was great because I got to see some parts of the world that I had never seen before. All in all, it was a great vacation and I’m already looking forward to next year’s!

Benefits of Planning for a Vacation

When it comes to planning a vacation, there are many benefits that can be derived from doing so. Perhaps the most obvious benefit is that you will have a much better chance of actually enjoying your time off if you have planned ahead. Another big benefit is that you can save a considerable amount of money by planning your vacation in advance.

If you wait until the last minute to book your travel and accommodations, you will almost certainly end up paying more than if you had taken the time to plan ahead. By planning your vacation in advance, you can also take advantage of early bird specials and other deals that are often available. And, of course, if you are traveling with family or friends, it is always easier to coordinate everyone’s schedule when there is ample time to do so.

How Taking a Vacation Helped Me Recharge

It was the middle of winter and I was feeling really burnt out. I had been working non-stop for months and I desperately needed a break. I decided to take a vacation and go somewhere warm.

I ended up going to Hawaii and it was incredible. The weather was perfect and I got to relax on the beach all day. I also did some exploring and went hiking in the jungle. It was an amazing experience and exactly what I needed.

After a week in Hawaii, I felt completely refreshed. I was ready to go back to work and tackle whatever came my way. Taking a vacation definitely helped me recharge and I would recommend it to anyone who is feeling overwhelmed or stressed out.

What I Learned During My Winter Break

I spent my winter break catching up on some much needed sleep. I had been working hard all semester and by the end, I was completely exhausted. So, for the first few days of break, I just slept in and relaxed. It felt amazing to not have to set an alarm and to just be able to sleep in!

In addition to catching up on sleep, I also used my winter break to catch up on some quality time with friends and family. I hadn’t seen some of them in months, so it was great to finally have some time to relax and chat with them. We went out to eat, saw movies, and just hung out at each other’s houses.

Finally, I used my winter break to get ahead on some work for next semester. I know it sounds kind of boring, but it really helped me feel less stressed when classes started back up again. Overall, I had a great winter break and learned a lot!

All in all, my winter vacation was a memorable experience. I got to spend quality time with family and friends, explore new places, learn about different cultures, try out new activities, and even get some much-needed rest. It is safe to say that I made the most of this short break from studies and will cherish those memories for years to come!

It is a respite from regular classes, and exams and the cold weather adds to the fun. Unlike the west, people in India have a special love for the winter season. It is because the summers are harsh here. Also, in winter, you can enjoy some hot delicacies snuggling in your blanket. Kids usually play throughout the day because they do not get tired as easily as during summers. This break is even more exciting because the Christmas and New Year celebrations are in full swing. • It usually lasts for 12-15 days, and even the New Year’s celebration falls during this break.
  • This vacation is so exciting because it starts just after mid-term exams.

10 Lines on Winter Vacation For Kids

Now we are clear on all the broad writing points about the winter vacation. We can try and write a paragraph on winter vacation, which will help develop a writing flow in children. Let’s do it!

Winter vacation is a 10-15 day holiday that we get during the winter season. The winter season happens to be everybody’s favorite season. Two big festivities happen during this year: Christmas and New Year. Kids remain excited every year to receive gifts from Santa Claus. People decorate houses with lights and other illumination. People visit each other’s homes to share their happiness, and even the elders get a lot of holidays. Many offices remain closed. Hence, people travel to different places for winter vacations. To witness snowfall, people travel to hill stations. The temperature there remains very low. It is so satisfying to eat some hot delicacies during the winter season. All this reminds me of my previous vacation, when my family and I went to Himachal Pradesh on a holiday!

Now, we have written a short paragraph on the winter vacation. The next step would be to join two or more sections to prepare a 200-word essay. This short essay will be a child’s narration of his previous winter holiday!

Winter vacations are so exciting. I am a 2nd grader, and I live in Bangalore. During my last winter vacation, my family and my cousin’s family went for a holiday to Munnar, Kerala. We drove from Bangalore to Munnar. The drive was too long but too much fun, and it took us 12 hours to reach the hotel. The hotel was decorated with Christmas lanterns and Christmas trees. We clicked many pictures at different spots in the hotel and rested through the night.

For the next five days, we were in Munnar itself. We visited different spots in the city. Since it’s a hill station, it was very cold there, and sometimes it used to rain in Munnar. We saw the beautiful tea gardens of the city and enjoyed the local delicacies a lot. The return journey was fun too. For the rest of my holiday, my cousin stayed with us, and we had a great time playing and watching some fun movies together at night. We celebrated the New Year together. It was my most memorable winter vacation to date. I hope to have a lot more fun next year too!

I started my winter vacation by packing my bags and heading to a beautiful mountain resort with my family. The scenic views of snow-covered mountains and the crisp winter air instantly lifted my spirits. Essay on How I Spent My Winter Vacation in 1000-1500 Words

Winter vacations are always a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is a time to relax, unwind, and spend quality time with loved ones. This year, I was fortunate enough to have a long winter break, and I made the most of it by embarking on a memorable vacation.

My winter vacation began with a trip to the mountains. I have always been fascinated by the snow-capped peaks and the serene beauty of the mountains, so I decided to spend the first week of my vacation there. The crisp, cold air and the stunning views took my breath away as soon as I arrived. I spent my days skiing down the slopes, building snowmen, and sipping hot cocoa by the fireplace in the cozy cabin I had rented.

One of the highlights of my mountain vacation was a snowshoeing expedition I went on with a group of friends. We trekked through the snow-covered forests, marveling at the beauty of nature all around us. The silence of the mountains was a welcome change from the noise and chaos of city life, and I found myself feeling more at peace and content than I had in a long time.

After a week in the mountains, I headed to a tropical paradise for the second part of my winter vacation. The warm sun, sandy beaches, and crystal-clear waters were a stark contrast to the snowy mountains I had just left behind. I spent my days lounging on the beach, swimming in the ocean, and exploring the vibrant local markets.

One of the highlights of my tropical vacation was a snorkeling trip I went on. I had never snorkeled before, so I was a bit nervous at first. However, as soon as I put on my mask and dipped below the surface of the water, I was greeted by a colorful world of coral reefs, tropical fish, and other marine life. It was a truly magical experience, and one that I will never forget.

As my winter vacation came to an end, I found myself feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to tackle the new year ahead. The time spent in the mountains and on the beach had given me a new perspective on life and had allowed me to recharge both physically and mentally.

In conclusion, my winter vacation was a time of relaxation, adventure, and self-discovery. I am grateful for the memories I made and the experiences I had during those two weeks. I returned home feeling inspired and ready to take on whatever challenges the new year may bring. Winter vacations are truly a special time, and I look forward to many more in the years to come.

Long Essay on How I Spent My Winter Vacation in English

Long essay – 1400 words.

introduction

Unlike the scorching heat of the summer days, the winter season gives a cool and very pleasant experience. There are many characteristics of the winter season, that cannot be denied. Children and adults holidays during this season are very enjoyable for everyone. There is only a short holiday during this time, but everyone prepares plans in advance to make these holidays better.

What is holidays ?

Holidays that are given to school children from school and working people from their offices, such holidays are a great time to celebrate with families, relatives, friends, and close ones. Children eagerly wait for these holidays. Summer vacations may be long, but due to the hot weather at that time, children are not able to enjoy those holidays properly. Winter holidays are only for 15 to 20 days but this is the best holiday for them.

These holidays are given in the month of September-December to give rest to the students after the examination of second term. Kids love winter vacations because they can sleep till late in the morning. They don’t have to worry about getting up early to go to school. Most of us visit snowy places during holidays to enjoy winter holidays, and enjoy the beauty of this season in hilly areas. We all plan these holidays in different ways so that our holidays can be a good experience and memorable and we can spend it well.

my winter vacation experience

Winter vacation is a very short holiday for all of us but it is important for all. I love this weather very much so I eagerly wait for this winter season. Apart from this, it is a matter of happiness for me that in this winter season, I and my family get to eat different types of hot food prepared by my mother. Last year we all had planned to go to our uncle’s place. My uncle lives in a small village in Uttarakhand on the mountains, so this trip was very special for me.

I often hear that people go to hilly areas during winters to enjoy snowfall. That’s why I was very eager to go to my uncle’s place. In the snowy places in the mountains, people enjoy various sports like cycling, ice skating, ice hockey, etc. with snowfall. My uncle’s house was in a small village in the mountains, but I was more than happy that this time I would get to spend the winter season in the mountains. For this I was very curious and thrilled.

  • start of journey

My father had booked the tickets in advance as last time the chances of getting the seats confirmed were less. According to the scheduled day we started doing our packing and with all the goods we reached the station for our train on the scheduled day. It took us a total of 13 hours to reach Uttarakhand. I was very curious to reach that place and see the panoramic view there. Finally we reached Uttarakhand and my uncle had come to the station to pick us up. A person like me living in the plains was very happy to see that place. That place looked like a little heaven to me.

We along with uncle reached his village at his house. My uncle’s house was not very big but I like that place very much. I met my cousins and sisters there and we became five people in total. This holiday was going to be the most interesting and memorable one for me. Later my aunt cooked food for us. Uncle lit a fire for us and we all sat around him enjoying the heat of the fire. Then aunty served food for us and the food prepared by aunty was very tasty.

  • beauty of the place

We planned to visit the nearby areas the next day. The pleasant weather conditions there and the view of the mountain peaks covered with snow all around were making the place more attractive. I spent a lot of time looking at the natural beauty of the place, and there was a strange feeling of relaxation at the sight of it. The environment there was very clean and pollution was also a lot more work than in cities. I also saw those snow-capped mountains and also enjoyed the snowfall there. It was a perfect and clean place to take beautiful and picturesque pictures so we took many pictures together with the whole family which became memorable for me.

The next day we planned to visit various temples in the valley. It was very surprising that there were so many temples in that small place. I saw that the nature of the people there was very simple. A bonfire was lit in the verandah of the house in the evening and we all used to sit around it and play. Here the preparation of dinner used to start in the evening itself, because it was a hilly village area, so people used to eat early and go to sleep and get up early in the morning.

We stayed there for a week and had made plans to visit the surrounding areas every day. We went to different places and captured beautiful pictures there in our camera. I didn’t realize how a week had passed so quickly and it was time for us to return home. I returned home with a heavy heart but I was satisfied thinking it was the most memorable moment of my winter vacation.

Are mountainous regions the best place to spend winter holidays ?

Snowfall is considered to be the best part of winter holidays. It makes mountainous areas like heaven on earth. Snowfall usually occurs only in the hilly areas because the temperature of the higher hills is very low in winter, due to which there is snowfall. People plan to visit such places with their friends and family to enjoy snowfall in winter holidays and enjoy snowfall. There are many such sports such as snowman, ice skating, ice hockey, many types of sports can also be enjoyed at such places. People all over the world enjoy such games. Many of us also eagerly wait for the season of winter to enjoy such things and see the panoramic view.

Therefore, it would not be wrong to say that during the winter, people like to visit such areas the most to enjoy snowfall and other things in the mountainous areas. People from all over the world come to see the panoramic view of such places during the winter season. The beauty of the mountains in the northern region of India is bestowed by God and nature. Traveling to such places in the winter season attracts people from all over the country and abroad.

This journey is one of the most memorable moments for me, which has left a mark in my mind. Every winter vacation I wish to visit such places which have such picturesque views. For me, the moments spent with uncle’s family and their children were the happiest moments. Even today I feel very happy remembering the beauty of the place, the love of uncle’s family and the delicious food there.

Vacations are the best part in a student’s life. Students are lucky to get two long vacations each year. Though summer vacations are longer, I love winter vacations more as I have several beautiful memories associated with them. I wait for these vacations all year round and am extremely excited about them.

I make numerous plans for these vacations and live them to the fullest. Our winter vacations usually begin on Christmas which is one of my favourite festivals. So, I start my vacations with Christmas shopping. I visit the local markets with my mother to buy decorative items and colourful lights for my Christmas tree. Me and my brother decorate the Christmas tree and love it when it lights up.

During the vacations we visit our cousins or call them home to spend few days together. I love the company of my cousins. We all have a great time together. My mother also makes sure that we study for at least 2 hours each day to prepare for the exams ahead.

New Year also comes during winter vacations. We usually have a small house party to ring in the New Year. It is a small get together wherein we invite our close relatives and friends.

All in all, winter vacation is time for friends, family, cousins and lots of celebrations. I simply love it.

Essay on How I Spent My Winter Vacation – Essay 2 (300 words)

Introduction

Winter vacation has always been special for me. It brings in a lot of love, joy and laughter. Each winter vacation gives several memories to cherish for a long-long time. While during the primary classes all we did during the winter vacation was to eat, sleep, play and visit our friends and relatives however as we have entered the senior classes things have started to change. Now, we also need to spend time studying during our vacation. Here is how I spent my winter vacation last year when I was in seventh grade.

Increased Number of Coaching Classes

I had enrolled for maths and physics coaching classes at a nearby coaching institute. The classes were conducted every alternative day. Since, the final exams were approaching our teacher thought that vacation was a good time to cover up the syllabus so that we have ample time for revision and tests.

So, we had increased number of coaching classes. Since, we studied more at the coaching we had to take out more time for self study each day in order to revise those chapters at home. So, most part of the time was spent studying which was tiring but helpful during the exams.

Extended Winter Break

I live in Delhi and winters are extremely chilling here. Our winter vacation mostly begins on the 1 st of January and the school re-opens on the 16 th of January. This is the time when the cold is at its peak. The winter rain is also expected during this time making the weather even colder. However, due to extreme cold our winter break was extended by a week last year. This was great news. We planned a weekend family trip during these days. It was just what I needed after studying hard for so many days.

All in all, this winter vacation was different from the rest. It taught me the importance of following a schedule to make the most of the time and do well in life.

Essay on How I will Spend My Winter Vacation – Essay 3 (400 words)

Winter vacations are about to begin and I have numerous plans for the same. I am planning to visit my cousins, help my mother with household tasks, spend time with my grandparents, learn a new art and prepare for my final exams.

Visit Cousins

I am planning to visit my cousins during these winter vacations. We have been planning this ever since they visited us during the summer break. We have a lot of plans for the few days I will be visiting them and are quite excited about the same. I am lucky to have like-minded cousins. Being with them is the best feeling in the world. I just can’t wait to spend time with them and indulge in various mischievous activities during this vacation.

Family Time

I also want to spend time with my family. I am so tied up with my school assignments, coaching classes and other activities during the usual school days that I am hardly able to spend any time with my family. It has been long that I sat with my grandparents and listened to their interesting stories. I want to spend a lot of time with them during the vacations. I also want to play with the baby sister who always yearns to spend time with me. Besides, I will help my mother with the household chores as much as I can.

Learn a New Art

Apart from visiting my cousins and spending time with my family, I also plan to learn a new art during my winter vacations. Glass painting has always fascinated me and I wish to learn this art during this time. I have already selected few tutorials online. I will refer to them to learn this new art.

One of my neighbourhood aunts is also skilled in glass painting. She has done glass painting on her windows and has also hung numerous glass painting pieces in her house. In fact, her beautiful pieces of glass paintings have inspired me to learn this art. Besides, watching tutorials, I plan to visit her few times to acquire this skill. I have already brought the colours, brushes and frames and just can’t wait to begin these sessions.

I am just waiting for my mid-term exams to get over so that I can enjoy my winter vacations. However, I will not only indulge in all the fun activities during my vacations but also study for my final exams.

Essay on My Plans for this Winter Vacation – Essay 4 (500 words)

Winter vacations are just about to begin and I have a number of plans lined up for the same like each year. I will spend time with my parents, grandparents and siblings. I will indulge in my favourite hobbies and get a lot of time to relax. However, I am not just planning to have fun during the vacations but also aim to study for the exams ahead.

Study for My Final Exams

Over the years, I have learned that it becomes so much easier to learn the chapters during the exams if we have already studied and learned them earlier. My schedule is very hectic on the days when the school is going on. I attend the school, go for tuition classes and have to complete my homework assignments. I hardly get any time for self study. Holidays are a good time to study. There is a lot of time that can be invested in self study during the holidays.

I am a morning person. I love waking up early in the morning and that is the time when I can focus easily. So I have decided to study for at least three hours each morning during my vacations. I will sit for two more hours during the afternoon hours to cover the maximum I can. This will help me prepare thoroughly for my final exams.

Spend Time with Grandparents

My grandparents live in another city. We visit them during summer as well as winter vacations. This year also we shall be going to their place for few days. I love my grandparent’s house. It is a huge house with a big lawn that has different kinds of beautiful trees and plants. Visiting my grandparents place is the best part of the vacations. I always look forward to it.

My grandparents are extremely loving and caring. They eagerly wait for our vacations and are pleased to have us home. My grandmother prepares delicious food for us. We get to eat different kinds of delicacies at their place. I especially love the different kinds of sweet dishes prepared by my grandmother.

I also love spending time with my grandfather who shares his life experiences with us. He narrates stories and real-life incidences that help us learn so much about life. The days spent at my grandparents’ house have always been special for me. They have given us so many beautiful memories to cherish.

Other Activities

I also wish to indulge in some of my favourite activities during my winter vacations. I have already booked two classes a week for pottery. I will be going to the classes with my sister. I am also planning to go for evening walk regularly during my vacations. I love the weather during the winter evenings. A stroll in the park during this time is simply refreshing. It is an awesome experience and I don’t want to miss it at any cost.

With so many plans, I just can’t wait for my winter vacations to begin. I am eagerly waiting for them.

Long Essay on Winter Vacation – Essay 5 (600 words)

Winter Vacation is the time to relax and celebrate in the company of friends and family. It comes after the second term examination and gives the much needed respite after a month of rigorous study. I await the winter vacations eagerly as I indulge in a lot of fun stuff during these holidays.

Winter Vacations Bring in the Festive Vibes

Winter Vacations are mostly for fifteen days and two of the festivals I love the most i.e., Christmas and New Year fall during this time. So there is a flavour of festivities all around. I and my sister specially look forward to Christmas as our parents bring gifts for us and the whole house is illuminated with lights. We also shop for a lot of small bells, stars, reindeers and candies to decorate the Christmas tree.

I purchase a gift for my sister. We love the delicious cake our mother prepares for us on Christmas. The celebration is completed with family dinner. There is festive vibe all around. New Year celebrations are all the more special. This is because we are either invited to some friends’ or relatives’ place or we host a party. It is time to meet our family friends and cousins. I enjoy the good food and good company on this day.

Family Trip

We also plan a family trip to a hill station during winter vacations. If we are lucky enough we get to witness snow fall on such trips. It is usually a short trip of two-three days. Most of the times, we book the tickets almost a month in advance. We are all excited about the trip and start packing our stuff days before the same.

My father plans everything in advance to ensure a smooth trip. The hotel booking is done, sight-seeing list is prepared and the budget for everything is set. We mostly travel by train and it is fun. Last year, we travelled to Shimla during the winter vacations. It was a three day trip.

The mall road was the main attraction during this trip. It was covered with snow and we just love walking on it. Our hotel was near the mall road and we spent our mornings and evenings on the road. We enjoyed the weather, played with the snow and had piping hot momos as we sat on the benches placed on the mall road.

There was a Tibetan market near-by. I and my mother went shopping to the market. I just loved the variety of winter clothing items available there. I bought jackets and sweatshirts. I also bought a pair of boots and some accessories. My mother bought a shawl for herself and a lot of other stuff for the entire family. We also went for site seeing to other places. The best part of the trip was the snowfall that we witnessed on the last day of our trip. It added to the overall experience and made the trip completely worth it.

A Strict Routine

Though, we are in a holiday mood throughout the winter vacations and enjoy them to the fullest, our mother makes sure that we do not skip studying. She prepares a schedule to ensure that we make the most of the time we have to prepare for the final exams and have fun at the same time.

The schedule includes two hours of study in the morning and an hour during late afternoon. She also makes sure we wake up early and go for walk or cycling. We are free to choose what we want to do during the rest of the day. However, we can watch TV only for two hours a day.

I just love winter vacations. They have given me some wonderful memories to cherish for a lifetime. These vacations are truly full of fun, frolic and warmth.

How I spent my winter vacation? – Short Essay

' data-src=

Today was the last day of my winter vacations and they were just like the winter season. Very cool! The day the vacations started, I came back home from school and told my parents about the vacations.

I knew they wouldn’t take me out for a picnic or a camping as they never used to do so on any vacations. So, I went up to my room and started cribbing upon how boring my vacations are going to be.

My cribbing didn’t last long as I heard a knock on my door. It was my mom and she was glowing like the sun of summer in the season of winter! I could see the happiness sparkling from her face! She held both my shoulders with all her might and shook me and said, “Uncle Ram just came by and said that he is going out of town with his family for vacations and their farmhouse is vacant. So we can go there and stay for the holidays!” The moment I heard these words from my mum, rains of happiness started happening inside of me! And I couldn’t help but dance in these rains!

Since then, I never rested, not for a moment. I had to pack all my stuff. I had to take the best of this vacation as it was my first one and could well be the last. I dressed like a shepherd as I wanted to have the complete feel of being a farm boy. We were driving our way to the farmhouse. The scenic views and natural hues were a treat to enjoy throughout the journey. It gave me a soothing relief from my stress and tension. We finally reached after a long journey of four hours. Everyone was tired except me. I was thrilled to reach there! The moment the car stopped, I jumped out and started exploring the place. There was a huge wooden farmhouse where we would stay. The place was surrounded by tiny patches of lands. Some were covered by crops and some by trees. The place was a paradise! There was also a river flowing by the farm where I used to go every day and swim and play in the water. We used to lit a bonfire at night and dance around it! This was the winter vacation I’ll remember and cherish for a long time.

Short Paragraph on My Winter Vacation (370 Words)

essay on how i spent my winter vacation

Here is your short paragraph on My Winter Vacation !

With the season changing, I am all prepared to enjoy my winter vacations. Winters are welcomed at my house and we all love the season.

Even though it is cold, there are lots of fun that happens during this season and we all thoroughly enjoy spending winter vacations in the company of each other.

Last winter was really memorable for me. To begin with, during the first week of vacation, I went snowboarding along with my friends. It was so much of fun that we all enjoyed so much.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

After snowboarding for a few days, we switched to skiing. Wow!! It is really fabulous. Though we were not experts, we learnt our way and we had a guide who taught us how to ski correctly. It was so great and exciting to be there. Since there is heavy snow during winters, skiing is perfect.

Apart from playing all the time, sometimes due to heavy snow, we may not be able to step out. At this point of time, we together as a family take our shovels and buckets and dig out a path way to reach out. Though it does take some time and effort, we do as a team work, the entire family enjoys it. We make games while we do the work, to make it more interesting and creative, and sometimes we also make the lovely snowman from the snow that we shovel out.

We play in the snow and make snowballs and have fun by throwing the snow balls at each other. By then it would be Christmas time and it is so lovely to watch every house with burning lights and lovely decorated windows, all in the midst of snow.

Celebrating Christmas, with so much snow is great and we went to our Aunts place for Christmas last time. With plenty of gifts received, so much of yummy food prepared, Christmas really was one among a memorable event for all of us.

Soon after Christmas, we all got prepared for New Year celebrations and welcomed the New Year with all good spirits and prayers.

I look forward to spend a similar winter vacation, in the forth coming vacations too.

My Travel Tips for Seeing the World’s Best Places

A photograph of a road stretching toward mountains in the distance.

By Nicholas Kristof

Opinion Columnist

’Tis the season for vacations, so let me make my pitch that the best travel is not lounging at a beach resort but rather journeying into a different world. We all need relaxation at times, but nothing beats the thrill of a trip of discovery and the education that comes with it.

Mark Twain once observed that “travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness.” In that spirit, I’ve long urged young Americans to take gap years before college or junior years abroad . (One high school reader of such an essay, Spencer Cohen , ended up taking a gap year partly in Japan, became an Asia hand and is now a colleague at The Times.)

Still, there are risks, less of violence (the U.S. has more guns than other countries) than of having your passport and credit cards stolen. So I preach both travel and prudence, and on a recent book tour , I found myself often asked about travel advice I had mentioned in my memoir. So let me share a few tips for the vacation season:

1. The most memorable travel often involves encountering something unfamiliar, so consider escaping the herds parading through Paris. Indonesia, Ghana, India, Nepal, Vietnam, Morocco and Bolivia are generally safe, far cheaper than Europe and offer indelible experiences. I’ll never forget venturing deep into the Potosí silver mines in Bolivia, exploring a grim slave castle in Ghana that dispatched prisoners to slavery in America, learning how to use a blowgun while staying with families in their longhouse in Indonesia’s Borneo rainforest. The world awaits us!

2. Some of the places that you find most culturally distant may be right here in the United States. A teenager from an affluent family in the New York or Boston areas would step into a different world by taking a ranch job in Wyoming. And this is the kind of travel that is not only affordable but actually pays for the experience.

3. Be spontaneous. As a law student in 1982, I spent five weeks backpacking through the Middle East and met a couple of Palestinian students on a West Bank bus; I jumped off at their stop and spent a memorable day with them in their refugee camp hearing about their frustrations and dreams (I wrote about reuniting with them last fall). And while on a bus in the Sahara, I accepted an Algerian man’s invitation to visit his village — which turned out to be a warren of underground burrows to protect families from the extreme heat, the most unusual residential architecture I’ve ever seen. In each case, I was with a couple of friends, which made it seem safer to put myself in the company of people I’d just met, and obviously one should be as judicious as one is spontaneous.

4. One occasionally hears that adventurous travel is just for men, but some of the most accomplished foreign correspondents and overseas photographers are women, as are a majority of Peace Corps volunteers. As a man, I don’t face the same risks that women face, but I have seen female travelers — disproportionately from Australia and New Zealand — thriving as they backpack through the most remote places. Some have suggested the purchase of a cheap wedding ring; a $20 band and a fabricated husband can help keep pests away.

How they spent their summer vacations

Harvard Staff Writer

A look at five projects, including a hunt for stolen coins, tracing history of long closed, Jim Crow-era beach in New Orleans

Summer isn’t only for lazing on the beach. For some College undergraduates, it’s also the time for diving into crucial research. Here are five who are participating in the Harvard Summer Undergraduate Research Village Program or received the Ethnicity, Migration, Rights Summer Thesis Research Grant.

Puyuan “Alvin” Ye showing a coin on his laptop.

Puyuan “Alvin” Ye ’27

Ye, a prospective computer science concentrator, is working with the Coins Recovery Project to create a crawler bot that searches online auction databases with the goal of tracking down hundreds of  coins stolen from Harvard Art Museums in 1973 .

“You’re basically cosplaying the FBI,” Ye joked.

The collection, which included ancient Greek and Roman coins, was on loan to the Fogg Art Museum at the time of the theft. Nearly 6,000 were stolen by a group of armed gunmen who overpowered a lone night watchman, according to news reports. Most have since been recovered by FBI agents, museum staff, Harvard students, and consultants.

The Coins Recovery Project kicked off last fall with archival work on the hundreds that remain missing. The initiative continued into the spring with the creation of a database on the stolen treasures. Now, Ye is using his tech skills to pitch in.

The Summer Humanities and Arts Research Program fellow is working under Laure Marest, Damarete Associate Curator of Ancient Coins, and Jeff Steward, director of digital infrastructure and emerging technology, to comb through descriptions of auction entries. Ye is working on creating an image- and description-matching bot to flag coins of interest, which will then be passed to the curator to confirm any potential match.

“This is the first time I’ve ever used my computer science skills for a real-life application,” Ye shared. “I’m learning while I’m working on this project, and I’m also preparing myself better for what I might do in the future.”

Emily Peck reading outside.

Emily Peck ’25

Peck has spent time tutoring English language learners in Boston Public Schools during her time at Harvard. The experience illuminated many of the challenges immigrant children face in the U.S. education system.

“A lot of these students were being asked to do work at an English level that was much higher than the level they spoke,” said the social studies concentrator. “It seemed like there was this huge gap that wasn’t being bridged by their education.”

Peck was inspired to research the history of bilingual education in Boston, learning about two laws that had a significant impact across the state. It turns out the city had several thriving bilingual programs in the early 2000s. But a 2002 referendum replaced multiyear transitional English education with a single year of intensive language training, effectively ending bilingual programs in Massachusetts. Fifteen years later, a coalition of advocacy groups worked to reverse the ban with passage of the 2017 LOOK Act.

This summer, Peck — a recipient of the EMR Summer Thesis Research Grant — is investigating how support for bills such as the LOOK Act emerges in the first place. The quest brought her to the State House, where she spoke to staffers about representatives’ support of the bill and how their constituencies affect decisions to endorse particular causes.

Her research is helping her learn more about the democratic process, but it’s also informing her views on best practices for improving bilingual education for immigrant students.

“Public schools should assess the needs and wants of their students and parents and the achievements of their students,” she said. “From there they should decide what program would be best.”

Abel Rodríguez in a science lab.

Abel Rodríguez ’27

What began as a first-year seminar turned into a summer research opportunity for Rodríguez. The rising sophomore is participating in the Foundational Undergraduate Experience in a Laboratory (FUEL) program, which exposes students to the world of lab research.

One of 10 students participating in FUEL, Rodríguez is studying porphyrins — a group of macrocyclic compounds that are aromatic and absorb light — and how to synthesize them for cancer treatment.

Along the way, Rodríguez, who hopes to concentrate in chemistry, is also picking up lab techniques, safety, and social norms for those working in a lab.

“Coming to a place like Harvard, I had this notion that everything that people will do will be immaculate,” Rodríguez said. “But being in the lab surrounded by so many bright people and seeing their mistakes … It’s changed my perspective in the sense that when I make a mistake in the lab, this is where I’m really learning and growing.”

The experience also clarified plans for his academic career. “The program was the last step I took toward figuring out what I really want to do,” he said. “It has established for me that I want to go into the sciences. I want to engage in research.”

Shruti Gautam standing in front of the ocean.

Shruti Gautam ’25

Interning with public defenders in New Orleans last summer led Gautam to discover a local gem known as Lincoln Beach, a former Jim Crow-era amusement park and recreation area for Black residents that was closed after the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act but is still used by locals.

A year later, Gautam, a history concentrator with a secondary in neuroscience, is back in The Big Easy, this time as an EMR summer thesis-research grant recipient. Now she spends her days combing through city archives and land documents or analyzing old maps to learn about the beach’s history.

She also is working with community members organizing to make Lincoln Beach safer, cleaner, and more accessible.

“Histories of small properties are the best way to explain a much larger, complicated history,” the Mather House resident said. “For New Orleans, it’s incredibly important because the histories that are written about the city are often mythologized and make this city live in its past. Everything is focused on its French colonial history, or jazz … and not an actual true history of the people who are still there.”

Before settling on Lincoln Beach as her thesis topic, Gautam learned more about its history last fall during a Harvard Law School class on labor history and the law. While researching a course assignment, Gautam learned that the privately leased and run beach under public jurisdiction had been managed for part of the 20th century by local Black community members, many of whom were also unionized.

The beach sits on Coushatta tribal land and was previously owned by United Fruit Company President Samuel Zemurray and the public-private Orleans Levee Board.

On July 10, the beach was designated as part of the National Registry of Historic Sites, an important development in its preservation and planned redevelopment.

Gautam was particularly interested in the site’s identity as it transitioned from tribal land to an important gathering space for Black and Latinx communities. “I came to the conclusion that it never really transforms how people associate themselves with the land,” she said. “What it does transform is who companies decide they want to be able to access the land.”

Kayla Reifel examining a historical scientific instrument.

Kayla Reifel ’26

The History of Science concentrator is spending the season processing a new series   of Polaroids of historical scientific instruments and creating a mini exhibition for display in the foyer of her department at the Science Center.

The department is home to the collection. “It’s a pretty small museum and small staff, so we get to really be deeply involved with all different facets,” Reifel said.

The opportunity is part of the Summer Humanities and Arts Research Program (SHARP) and includes research on the instruments themselves.

“One of the most interesting things I’m learning about is the ethics of museum collecting and displaying,” Reifel said. “It’s been really interesting to hear about what’s acceptable and what’s not when it comes to accepting donations and displaying things in a certain way.”

Reifel has even learned how to handle the historical instruments. “My work this summer has made me think a lot harder about education and what considerations we need to have to think about when it comes to teaching science and the history of science,” she noted. “It’s also allowed me to develop this ability to really find joy in whatever I’m researching.”

Reifel feels she is now better equipped to advocate for the importance of historical research. “This experience really made me realize how important it is to tell the stories of the history of pretty much anything,” she said. “If you don’t know the history behind something, then you don’t know what you’re doing.”
