Answer: 147 Mayur Vihar New Delhi 11 April 20xx The Editor Hindustan Times New Delhi

Subject: Evoking Awareness Towards Solar Energy

Sir Through the columns of your reputed newspaper, I wish to make the people aware of the growing need and demands of solar power. We all know that our earth is showing signs of a patient in declining health and it is due to excessive pollution on our planet. Man has a desire to live a luxurious life and for that, he is over consuming electricity. He doesn’t realize that overuse would exhaust the treasure. We must conserve electricity which is the need of the hour. But this com; rvation can only be done if we start using solar power systems. Various kinds of solar systems like solar cookers, solar lanterns, solar heating and cooking system, solar water heater, etc., are available in the market. These solar systems are non-polluting. They are economical and are available in different sizes. So, I request you to publish this letter in your newspaper to make people aware of the need of conserving electricity and limiting electricity bills. Public must pay attention to the dire need of switching over to solar energy. Thanking you. Yours sincerely Divyansh

Question 2. Though there is a movement like ‘Sarvashiksha Abhiyan’ and enrolling of underprivileged children in schools, there are still many children, like the one in the picture, who do not go to school, rather have never seen a school. It is indeed disturbing. You decide to write a letter to the editor of a newspaper expressing your views and the steps to be taken. Take ideas from the MCB unit ‘Education’. Write the letter in about 120 words. (NCT 2014) (5 marks) Answer: 87 A Saket Colony Agra 25th October 20 xx The Editor The Times of India New Delhi

Subject: Educating the Underprivileged

Sir Through the columns of your reputed newspaper, I wish to draw your attention towards the movement ‘Sarvashiksha Abhiyan’ which aims at providing knowledge to all children. Even the act RTE-Right to Education also ensures education for all children between the age of four to fourteen. But these movements and acts do not show themselves implemented anywhere especially in the underprivileged class. There are still many children who do not go to school. They either work as a domestic labour or work in factories, dhabas, etc. It is disturbing to note that our government’s plans are not bearing any fruits. It is all because of lack of awareness towards these kinds of movements. We all need the help of print media as well as electronic media to spread messages of awareness to the masses. The underprivileged children must be made to realize that they have the right to get education. So, they must go to school. The foremost thing is to discourage child-labour so as to give these children a bright future. I hope you will pay attention to this noble cause and publish it in your newspaper. Thanking you. Yours sincerely Siddharth Singh

(Board 2014, Set 8L1922Q) (5 marks) Answer: 679 Kaveri Vihar – New Delhi 14th July 20xx The Editor The Times of India New Delhi

Subject: Rising Prices

Sir I wish to draw your attention towards the inflation which has made life difficult for common man. It was not so in earlier times when things were very cheap and were within the reach of almost everyone. But the sharp rise in prices of all commodities has made it difficult for a common man to make both his ends meet He cannot bear even the daily expenses of his family. This is giving rise to disappointments and dejections in their life. Corruption is also on the rise, so as to avoid financial crisis, people are turning towards bribery whidt is the root cause of all evils. The society is taking a bad turn only because of inflation. It is high time that the concerned authorities should wake up to this social cause and try to put reins to the rising price so that people can lead a comfortable and peaceful life. Thanking you. Sir Through this letter of mine, I wish to draw the attention of everyone towards the increased dependence of humans on technology. We use internet for any type of information which we find only a click away. Everyone, whether a child or an adult, wants gadgets like cell phones, I-pod, laptop, etc. No doubt, technology is a boon to mankind and has a great future ahead. But in my opinion, we should not depend on it as excess of everything is bad. It is making everyone lazy. On the other hand, cyber crimes are also growing. The key word for this is caution. We must make judicious use of technology and should not totally depend on it. We must believe in natural and simple living. I hope you will publish this letter in your newspaper for better future of human beings. Thanking you. Yours sincerely Sambhav Jain

CBSE Class 10 English Letter Writing 2

Subject: Changing Trend in Children’s Activities

Sir Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to draw the attention of the general public towards the changing trend in the recreational activities of children of modem tunes. It is shocking to know that present day children don’t want to spend their leisure hours on book-reading, sports and games or any other outdoor activity as was done in the years from 1960-1980. Rather modem day juveniles are more interested in indoor activities. Only 10% of them are interested in book reading whereas 60% can be seen busy with gadgets. This is not a positive trend. It is leading our children towards poor health and stamina. In my opinion, children should be made to understand the importance of reading books and this can be done at school level as well as by parental interference. The advantages of outdoor games must be stressed upon. They must realise that outdoor games impart them the value of discipline as well as team spirit Parents should not provide them electronic gadgets at an early stage. Hope this letter of mine will spread awareness among children as well as parents and recreational activities of children will again get channelized in a positive way. Thanking you. Yours sincerely Malavika (Health Specialist)

  • Youngsters to volunteer

Answer: 47, COD colony Jaipur 18th February, 20 xx The Editor The Hindu New Delhi _

Subject: Creating Awareness towards Health and Hygiene

Sir Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to draw the attention of the youngsters towards the negligent attitude of people towards basic health and hygiene. The villagers are not paying any attention to sanitation and personal hygiene which is leading them towards ill health. This hurdle can be overcome by organizing Health Camps in these areas where we can make these villagers aware of the importance of a healthy lifestyle by means of discussions or health check ups by specialists. A small dispensary can also be set up there for their regular routine check up. They must be taught that cleanliness is next to godliness. I invite youngsters through this letter of mine to volunteer their names so that we can put our plan into action. A little effort on our part will save these villagers from contracting serious diseases. Thanking you. Yours sincerely Amita

Subject: Poor Condition of Heritage Sites

Sir Last Sunday I went to visit Taj Mahal along with my parents. I was quite excited but all the excitement was only shortlived as the place was not as beautiful as it should have been. The Taj no doubt, is an epitome of beauty. But the place outside was littered with plastic plates, broken bottles, leftover food, etc. Many tourists come to Agra to view Taj but the mess around the monument leaves a bad impression on the tourists. People must acquire some good civic habits. Dustbins should be provided at short distances and people should use them. They should throw the wastes and leftovers in the dustbins. Spitting of pan-masalas should not be done. Children should be taught dvic habits right from the beginning. Parents should ensure that the children are following good habits. There is a dire need to check all this and to take preventive steps. Through this letter of mine, I want to create awareness among general public that we must not neglect our archaeological and heritage sites. We must take good care of them by following good civic habits and following the code of conduct ethically. Thanking you. Yours truly Archit Mahajan

We visited the place as a part of school exclusion but were shocked to see its plight. The water in the park was dirty and a stale smell was emnating from it. It can result in many water borne diseases. There were very few visitors due to the degrading condition. I want to make the concerned authorities aware that they must ensure the regular cleaning of water at proper intervals. Draining can also be done. To restore its popularity, a canteen or snack-bar can be opened. This place can become a popular holiday spot if taken care of properly. Thanking you. Yours sincerely Nitin

Along with own ideas, write a letter to the editor of a newspaper highlighting this problem and suggesting some remedy for it.(Board Term-1,2012 Set EC2,046) (5 marks) Answer: 232, Friends Colony Noida 16th May, 20xx The Editor The Hindustan Times New Delhi

Subject: Chaotic Traffic Condition

Sir Through this letter of mine, I wish to draw the attention of the authorities towards the problems faced by students everyday. We reach our school fifteen minutes late as our school bus gets stuck in a traffic jam near Chintpumi Temple crossing. People park their vehicles in a haphazard way. Beggars crowd the gates as well as roads, waiting for someone to come out of the temple and give alms to them. There is a traffic signal at that crossing but people do not follow it. It is my humble request that a parking area should be allotted to the Temple site so that people can park their vehicles in a proper way. The Temple Trust should appoint someone who can make the beggars sit in a queue and that too on the footpath and not on the road. And last but not the least, a police-picket should be there at the crossing to make people follow the rules and regulations. I hope you’ll publish this letter in your esteemed newspaper so that some actions can be taken in this matter. Thanking you. Yours sincerely Akriti

Yon are Kunal/Karuna of Ghaziabad.(Board Tenn-1,2012 Set EC2, 052) (5 marks) Answer: 522, Railway Colony Ghaziabad 27th April, 20xx The Editor National Herald New Delhi

Subject: Poor Water Supply

Sir Through the columns of your reputed newspaper, I wish to draw your attention towards the water supply in our colony. There is a great scarcity of water in our colony. We’re supplied water for only 3-4 hours in the whole day. The pressure at that time is so low that it is very difficult to finish the chores in time. Moreover, sometimes the water supplied is dirty and unclean. Most of the times, there is a power-cut also at the same hours when water is supplied which affects us a lot. So, I request the concerned authorities to improve the quality of water supplied in our area and increase the hours of supply so that the residents of our area do not face the problem. Everyone is aware that water is our basic necessity and we cannot do without it. I hope some positive action will be taken by the authorities at the earliest. Thanking you. Yours truly Kanina

How to Write an Application

Writing an application is like telling someone what you want in a clear and polite way. It could be for a job, school, or even asking for time off. It’s important to be clear, honest, and to the point. You should also follow any rules or formats that are expected. This guide will give you simple steps to make your application good and easy to understand.

Write an Engaging First Paragraph

First paragraph of your application is your initial chance to capture the recipient’s attention. Whether you’re learning “how to write application to principal” or drafting a “job application letter,” that introduction sets the tone.

  • Start with Clarity: Clearly state your purpose from the beginning. If it’s about “ how to write application for leave ,” mention the reason for your leave in the first few lines.
  • Introduce Yourself: A simple introduction of who you are can make your application personal. For instance, “I am Jane, a third-year student,” or “I am Mark, an engineer with five years of experience.”
  • Be Direct: Don’t beat around the bush. If you’re inquiring about “ how to write application for school ,” state your intent to join the school or your reason for reaching out.
  • Stay Relevant: Ensure you incorporate relevant keywords from your research, but don’t force them. It should flow naturally, providing value to the reader.

Highlight Your Attributes: Making Your Application Stand Out

Every application has a purpose, whether it’s for a school admission, a job position, or a simple request like “how to write application for leave.” What makes yours different? It’s the attributes you bring to the table.

Know Your Strengths: Before you “write application in English” or any other language, list down what you’re good at. These could be skills, experiences, or even unique perspectives you offer.

Be Genuine: When you talk about your attributes, be honest. If you’re writing a “job application letter,” discuss the skills that make you suitable for the job, not just what you think they want to hear.

Use Real-life Examples: Instead of just stating you’re a team player, share a brief instance where you worked in a team and achieved success.

Stay Relevant: Ensure your attributes align with the purpose of the application. For example, if you’re figuring out “how to write application to principal” for a leadership program in school, highlight leadership qualities or instances where you took charge.

Avoid Jargon: Use simple words. Instead of saying “I spearheaded a project,” you can say “I led a project.”

Crafting the Perfect Closing Sentence

The conclusion of your application is as crucial as the beginning. The closing sentence often plays a pivotal role in ensuring your application resonates with the reader.

Reiterate Your Main Point: Quickly recap your main reason for writing. If it’s a “job application letter,” you might restate your keen interest in the position.

Express Gratitude: A simple thank you can go a long way. Acknowledge the reader’s time, like “Thank you for considering my application for the school.”

Keep it Simple: A closing sentence shouldn’t be complex. A straightforward “I’m eager to contribute to the team” or “I’m looking forward to the opportunity” can be effective.

End Positively: Leave the reader with a positive note, ensuring they remember your application amidst others.

Include a Call to Action (if relevant): If applicable, subtly encourage the next step. For instance, “I’d appreciate the chance to discuss my qualifications further.”

So, you’ve found your dream job and want to make sure you nail the job application process. You double- and triple-check the criteria—they’re asking for a cover letter. What does that mean, and how do you write it? A cover letter or letter of application is a single page that sums up why you want and deserve the job. Think of it as an extension of your resume; a sales pitch for why you’re the perfect candidate. We’ve put together a step-by-step guide full of examples and tips on how to write a letter of application for a job. With our help and a little finesse, you may soon be calling that dream job your own.

Things You Should Know

  • Format your application letter single-spaced and in Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri font that’s 10- to 12-point in size.
  • Open your letter with an engaging and confident first paragraph that briefly includes your qualifications, where you found the job, and your overall interest in the position.
  • Show your personality in the body paragraphs by describing the passions that relate to the position in 1 or 2 sentences.
  • Use keywords (like leadership, communication, and detail-oriented) from the job description throughout your letter to show that you’ve done your research.

application letter for grade 10

  • First and last name
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Personal website and/or portfolio link (if you have one)

Step 4 Provide the company’s information.

  • If you don’t know the hiring manager's name, search the company’s website or refer to the name of the individual who originally posted the job opening.
  • If you’re in doubt about who to address your letter to, use “[Department] Hiring Manager.”

Step 5 Open your letter with a formal greeting.

  • If you don’t have the employer or hiring manager’s name, use a general but professional opening, “To Whom It May Concern” or “Dear [Department] Hiring Manager.”

Step 1 Explain what drew you to the job.

  • Be short and specific in this opening paragraph—save those details for later.
  • Think of your first paragraph as a sales pitch. What can you say that’ll grab their attention immediately? Is there something you have that other candidates don’t that make you more qualified for the position?
  • Show the employer that you’re familiar with the company and job application by noting keywords and characteristics valued by the company.
  • For example: “I write to apply for the Office Manager position at Acme Investments, Inc. I am an excellent fit for this position, as demonstrated by my extensive background in management and proven success as a corporate administrator.”

Step 2 State where you found the position.

  • Companies appreciate when job candidates include this information because it lets them know where people are searching for jobs.
  • Only include a company contact or friend’s name if you have their permission. This way, they’ll be ready to answer any questions about you and your character later.
  • You may write something like: “John Smith recommended that I get in touch with you about the general manager position at EnviroRent,” or “I came across the available position on LinkedIn and believe I am a strong candidate.”

Step 3 Explain why hiring you would benefit the company.

  • For instance, if the company needs someone who can lead a team and handle multiple projects at once, note what team projects you’ve led in previous positions and how you improved overall productivity.
  • If you have numerical data or stats to back up your accomplishments, include them! This is your time to brag about your achievements and show how you’ve excelled in the workplace.

Step 1 Summarize your strengths, qualifications, and experiences.

  • Scan the job application for keywords like leadership, communication, management, and detail-oriented. Then, highlight in your letter how you have these characteristics or skills.
  • Avoid embellishing any of your qualifications. Remember, an employer can always double-check the facts.
  • If you’re not sure what to write, refer to your resume or CV. What have you done that matches the job description best, and how can you elaborate on it?
  • For example: “In my previous role, I successfully supported an office of 100 personnel and honed my management and interpersonal skills through customer service and clerical responsibilities.”

Step 2 Include details that aren’t on your resume.

  • For instance, you could express how the company has impacted you personally and why that’s driven you to apply for the position.
  • Although you want to provide details, keep it short. Stick to a 1 to 2-sentence description rather than a full-length story. Your letter should stay under 3 paragraphs.
  • Here’s an example: “My passion for teaching began the summer of my sophomore year of high school when I was a camp counselor. I was given the opportunity to teach a class focusing on local plant life, and the campers’ enthusiasm cultivated my love for teaching and conservation.

Step 3 Finish with a call to action.

  • For instance, you could write, “I am excited about the possibility of working for you and your company. I would be more than happy to discuss my qualifications and Acme’s future direction in person or via video conference.”
  • Keep your call to action brief and open, or provide specific dates you’d be available to meet with the employer.

Step 1 Thank the employer for their time and consideration.

  • For instance, sign off with, “Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you,” or “Thank you for considering me for this position. If you have any further questions or require additional documentation, please don’t hesitate to contact me.”

Step 2 Sign off with a respectable salutation.

  • If you’re sending your letter via email, import your signature into the document as an image or .png file.

Adrian Klaphaak, CPCC

  • Always proofread and ask someone else to read over your application letter before you send it. This way, you can make sure it’s absolutely perfect and error-free. Subject: Rising number of road accidentsRespected Sir,
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities towards the increase in the number of road accidents in the metropolitan cities. The loss of life due to these accidents is also increasing. Why is this so?. The thrill for speed among the impatient youth or the underage drivers could be a cause. Blaming the youth solely for these accidents is not justified. There are many who do not follow traffic rules. The reason could be, to reach the destination in a hurry, stress leading to loss of concentration, distractions like mobile phone, road rage, the result is the same–accidents.Drunken driving is yet another cause of accidents. Everyone wants to live in luxury. With companies offering vehicles affordable EMI and costs, the dream of owning a vehicle is becoming a reality for many. However all this leads to an increase in number of vehicles on the road, thereby leading to more accidents. We need to take stringent measures to avoid these accidents. More policemen should be deployed to act as deterrents. There should be stricter punishment for even a small violation of rules. Another way would be to inculcate traffic rules and discipline at school itself. While issuing licence there should be comprehensive classes for traffic rules. In cases of underage drivers, parents should be held responsible and penalized. Another solution would be to car pool. This would not only reduce traffic but also reduce the pollution in the environment. If these measures are implemented, we will be able to save a lot of lives.Thank youYours sincerely
Arun

Delhi 110006Subject: Use of unfair meansSir,
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to the alarming rise in the use of unfair means by students while appearing for exams.Students get chits, and use latest gadgets to copy. There are some who use the old method copying from the peers. Many are caught by the exam squads and suspended. Some even lose a year. But still the practice continues. What is it that is forcing students to fall prey to this dangerous practice? The primary reason is the high expectations of parents and teachers. Then there is peer pressures. The competition to be at the top. There are some who copy due to lack of preparation. Sometimes, fear of failure and poor vigilance also make students use unfair means during exams. The need of the hour is to take immediate measures to help the students. The teachers and parents need to play an active role in sensitizing students about the importance of learning. They should instill life skills and values of integrity and honesty. Vigilant should be excellent quality. We need to manoeuvre our children on to the right path.Yours sincerely

Closing It should be a conclusion of your main body and in not more than two to three lines that must convey the action/response you expect the receiver to take/provide.

Subscription/Complimentary close It is written on the left or right side of the letter below the closing, leaving some gap. It usually ends with ‘Yours faithfully/sincerely/respectfully’. Only the first letter will be in capital.
