global warming essay in english for class 10

Global warming means the Earth is getting hotter. This happens because of things like pollution from cars and factories. These pollutants are called greenhouse gases, and they make the Earth's air trap more heat from the sun. One major greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide, which comes from burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas. When trees are cut down and forests disappear, that's bad too, because trees help clean the air.

Because of global warming, some big problems are happening. Ice at the North and South Poles is melting, which causes the sea levels to rise. When the sea level goes up, it can flood coastal areas, making it hard for people to live there. Also, the Earth's weather is getting crazy. There are more hurricanes, droughts, and floods. These extreme weather events can be dangerous and damage homes and farms.

But don't worry! People all over the world are working to stop global warming. They use clean and renewable energy sources like the sun and wind instead of burning fossil fuels. They also make agreements like the Paris Agreement and the Kyoto Protocol to help reduce pollution. These agreements are like promises between countries to protect the planet.

Understanding global warming is important because it harms the environment and makes life harder for everyone. We need to take care of our planet by using clean energy and protecting forests. It's like being a good friend to the Earth. So, let's all work together to keep the Earth cool and safe for the future.

Global warming is a big problem for our planet, and it's getting worse every day. It's like a threat that's making life harder on Earth.

To fix global warming, we first need to understand what's causing it. One of the main reasons is the extra carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air. This comes from things like cutting down trees and using coal, oil, and gas for energy. It's also from burning gasoline in cars. All of this makes the Earth's temperature rise.

When the Earth gets hotter, it causes problems like rising sea levels, floods, storms, and even more diseases. It's a big issue, and it affects all of us. We can't blame just one person or country for this. Everyone is a part of the problem, so we all need to work together to solve it.

We need to be aware of global warming and do our best to stop it. This means using cleaner energy sources and being more careful with our planet. It's a team effort, and if we all pitch in, we can make a difference and make the Earth a better place to live.

Essay on Global Warming 4 (250 words)

Global warming is a serious and ongoing increase in the Earth's temperature. It's a huge problem worldwide and is mainly caused by the rise in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. If we don't take immediate action as a global community, it could lead to catastrophic consequences, even threatening life on Earth.

The effects of global warming are becoming more dangerous every day. It's responsible for rising sea levels, floods, erratic weather patterns, storms, epidemics, food shortages, and loss of life. To combat this issue, we need to raise awareness at the individual level. People must understand what global warming is, what causes it, and the harm it brings. By making people worldwide aware, we can work together to restore the Earth's natural balance and ensure life can continue as usual.

To address global warming, we should reduce our carbon dioxide emissions. This means using less oil, coal, and gas, protecting trees (as they absorb carbon dioxide and provide oxygen), and using electricity more wisely. Small changes in our daily lives, practiced worldwide, can make a big difference in lessening the impact of global warming and ultimately stopping it. Everyone needs to take responsibility and contribute to a safer, healthier planet for current and future generations.

Essay on Global Warming 5 (300 words)

Global warming is the gradual heating of the Earth's surface due to an increase in carbon dioxide gas in the environment. It's a major issue that requires worldwide action. As the Earth's temperature steadily rises, it poses various threats and disrupts the balance of nature. This temperature rise brings about lasting changes in our climate, affecting the environment.

The increase in carbon dioxide (CO2) levels has far-reaching consequences. It leads to heatwaves, sudden and powerful storms, unpredictable cyclones, damage to the ozone layer, floods, heavy rainfall, droughts, food shortages, diseases, and even loss of life. This problem is largely driven by the continuous burning of fossil fuels, the use of fertilizers, deforestation, excessive electricity consumption, and certain gases used in refrigeration. If we don't take action to control CO2 emissions, the harmful effects of global warming are predicted to worsen by 2020.

The increased CO2 levels cause a phenomenon known as the greenhouse effect. Greenhouse gases like water vapor, CO2, methane, and ozone absorb heat energy, which is then radiated in all directions, including back toward the Earth's surface. This results in the Earth's surface warming up, contributing to global warming.

To combat the life-threatening effects of global warming, we must change our habits. We need to stop activities that increase CO2 and other greenhouse gases, leading to the greenhouse effect and global warming. This includes ending deforestation, reducing electricity consumption, and halting the burning of wood and other fossil fuels. These are critical steps to ensure a healthier and safer planet for ourselves and future generations. By working together and making these changes, we can address the global warming crisis and protect our world.

Essay on Global Warming 6 (500 words)

Global warming is an enormous environmental problem that we must address urgently and permanently. It refers to the continuous and gradual increase in the Earth's surface temperature. This issue requires global cooperation and discussion to mitigate its effects, as it has already disrupted the delicate balance of nature, impacted biodiversity, and significantly altered our planet's climate over several decades.

The primary culprits behind global warming are greenhouse gases, particularly carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane. These gases trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere, causing a rise in temperatures. This, in turn, leads to rising sea levels, melting ice caps and glaciers, and unpredictable climate changes, all of which pose serious threats to life on our planet. The demand for an improved standard of living has driven an increase in atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations, especially since the mid-20th century.

Statistical data reveal alarming trends, with years like 1983, 1987, 1988, 1989, and 1991 being recorded as the warmest six years of the past century. Such an increase in global warming has led to unforeseen natural disasters, including floods, cyclones, tsunamis, droughts, landslides, ice melting, food shortages, epidemic diseases, and even loss of life. These events disrupt the natural balance of our planet and signal a potential threat to life as we know it.

The global warming process intensifies as more water evaporates from the Earth's surface into the atmosphere. This excess water vapor further contributes to the greenhouse effect, causing temperatures to rise. Additionally, human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels, the use of fertilizers, and the emission of gases like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), tropospheric ozone, and nitrous oxide are also responsible for global warming.

The root causes of these problems can be traced back to technological advancements, population growth, an increasing demand for industrial expansion, deforestation, and the prioritization of urbanization. As our population continues to grow, we consume more resources, leading to higher emissions of greenhouse gases and a depletion of the Earth's natural resources.

To address global warming and its devastating effects, we must take immediate and collective action. The time for inaction has long passed. We must prioritize sustainability, renewable energy sources, afforestation, and reforestation to reduce CO2 levels and mitigate the impact of global warming. Additionally, responsible and conscious consumption, efficient energy use, and reducing waste are critical steps in the fight against this crisis.

Education and awareness are also key. People need to understand the causes and consequences of global warming, prompting a change in behavior and the adoption of more environmentally friendly practices. Governments, businesses, and individuals must work together to protect our planet and secure a sustainable future for generations to come. The solution to global warming requires a global commitment to change our way of life and preserve the Earth for future generations.

What are the Causes of Global Warming?

According to recent studies, many scientists believe the following are the primary four causes of global warming:

  • Deforestation
  • Greenhouse emissions
  • Carbon emissions per capita

Extreme global warming is causing natural disasters , which can be seen all around us. One of the causes of global warming is the extreme release of greenhouse gases that become trapped on the earth’s surface, causing the temperature to rise. Similarly, volcanoes contribute to global warming by spewing excessive CO2 into the atmosphere.

The increase in population is one of the major causes of Global Warming. This increase in population also leads to increased air pollution . Automobiles emit a lot of CO2, which remains in the atmosphere. This increase in population is also causing deforestation, which contributes to global warming.

The earth’s surface emits energy into the atmosphere in the form of heat, keeping the balance with the incoming energy. Global warming depletes the ozone layer, bringing about the end of the world. There is a clear indication that increased global warming will result in the extinction of all life on Earth’s surface.

Solutions for Global Warming

Of course, industries and multinational conglomerates emit more carbon than the average citizen. Nonetheless, activism and community effort are the only viable ways to slow the worsening effects of global warming. Furthermore, at the state or government level, world leaders must develop concrete plans and step-by-step programmes to ensure that no further harm is done to the environment in general.

Although we are almost too late to slow the rate of global warming, finding the right solution is critical. Everyone, from individuals to governments, must work together to find a solution to Global Warming. Some of the factors to consider are pollution control, population growth, and the use of natural resources.

One very important contribution you can make is to reduce your use of plastic. Plastic is the primary cause of global warming, and recycling it takes years. Another factor to consider is deforestation, which will aid in the control of global warming. More tree planting should be encouraged to green the environment. Certain rules should also govern industrialization. Building industries in green zones that affect plants and species should be prohibited.

Effects of Global Warming

Global warming is a real problem that many people want to disprove to gain political advantage. However, as global citizens, we must ensure that only the truth is presented in the media.

This decade has seen a significant impact from global warming. The two most common phenomena observed are glacier retreat and arctic shrinkage. Glaciers are rapidly melting. These are clear manifestations of climate change.

Another significant effect of global warming is the rise in sea level. Flooding is occurring in low-lying areas as a result of sea-level rise. Many countries have experienced extreme weather conditions. Every year, we have unusually heavy rain, extreme heat and cold, wildfires, and other natural disasters.

Similarly, as global warming continues, marine life is being severely impacted. This is causing the extinction of marine species as well as other problems. Furthermore, changes are expected in coral reefs, which will face extinction in the coming years. These effects will intensify in the coming years, effectively halting species expansion. Furthermore, humans will eventually feel the negative effects of Global Warming.

Essay on Global Warming in 500 Words

Global warming isn’t a prediction, it is happening! A person denying it or unaware of it is in the most simple terms complicit. Do we have another planet to live on? Unfortunately, we have been bestowed with this one planet only that can sustain life yet over the years we have turned a blind eye to the plight it is in. Global warming is not an abstract concept but a global phenomenon occurring ever so slowly even at this moment. Global Warming is a phenomenon that is occurring every minute resulting in a gradual increase in the Earth’s overall climate. Brought about by greenhouse gases that trap the solar radiation in the atmosphere, global warming can change the entire map of the earth, displacing areas, flooding many countries, and destroying multiple lifeforms. Extreme weather is a direct consequence of global warming but it is not an exhaustive consequence. There are virtually limitless effects of global warming which are all harmful to life on earth. The sea level is increasing by 0.12 inches per year worldwide. This is happening because of the melting of polar ice caps because of global warming. This has increased the frequency of floods in many lowland areas and has caused damage to coral reefs. The Arctic is one of the worst-hit areas affected by global warming. Air quality has been adversely affected and the acidity of the seawater has also increased causing severe damage to marine life forms. Severe natural disasters are brought about by global warming which has had dire effects on life and property. As long as mankind produces greenhouse gases, global warming will continue to accelerate. The consequences are felt at a much smaller scale which will increase to become drastic shortly. The power to save the day lies in the hands of humans, the need is to seize the day. Energy consumption should be reduced on an individual basis. Fuel-efficient cars and other electronics should be encouraged to reduce the wastage of energy sources. This will also improve air quality and reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Global warming is an evil that can only be defeated when fought together. It is better late than never. If we all take steps today, we will have a much brighter future tomorrow. Global warming is the bane of our existence and various policies have come up worldwide to fight it but that is not enough. The actual difference is made when we work at an individual level to fight it. Understanding its import now is crucial before it becomes an irrevocable mistake. Exterminating global warming is of utmost importance and each one of us is as responsible for it as the next.

Essay on Global Warming UPSC

Always hear about global warming everywhere, but do we know what it is? The evil of the worst form, global warming is a phenomenon that can affect life more fatally. Global warming refers to the increase in the earth’s temperature as a result of various human activities. The planet is gradually getting hotter and threatening the existence of lifeforms on it. Despite being relentlessly studied and researched, global warming for the majority of the population remains an abstract concept of science. It is this concept that over the years has culminated in making global warming a stark reality and not a concept covered in books. Global warming is not caused by one sole reason that can be curbed. Multifarious factors cause global warming most of which are a part of an individual’s daily existence. Burning of fuels for cooking, in vehicles, and for other conventional uses, a large amount of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, and methane amongst many others is produced which accelerates global warming. Rampant deforestation also results in global warming as lesser green cover results in an increased presence of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which is a greenhouse gas.  Finding a solution to global warming is of immediate importance. Global warming is a phenomenon that has to be fought unitedly. Planting more trees can be the first step that can be taken toward warding off the severe consequences of global warming. Increasing the green cover will result in regulating the carbon cycle. There should be a shift from using nonrenewable energy to renewable energy such as wind or solar energy which causes less pollution and thereby hinder the acceleration of global warming. Reducing energy needs at an individual level and not wasting energy in any form is the most important step to be taken against global warming. The warning bells are tolling to awaken us from the deep slumber of complacency we have slipped into. Humans can fight against nature and it is high time we acknowledged that. With all our scientific progress and technological inventions, fighting off the negative effects of global warming is implausible. We have to remember that we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors but borrow it from our future generations and the responsibility lies on our shoulders to bequeath them a healthy planet for life to exist.

Climate Change Essay

500+ words essay on climate change.

Climate change is a major global challenge today, and the world is becoming more vulnerable to this change. Climate change refers to the changes in Earth’s climate condition. It describes the changes in the atmosphere which have taken place over a period ranging from decades to millions of years. A recent report from the United Nations predicted that the average global temperature could increase by 6˚ Celsius at the end of the century. Climate change has an adverse effect on the environment and ecosystem. With the help of this essay, students will get to know the causes and effects of climate change and possible solutions. Also, they will be able to write essays on similar topics and can boost their writing skills.

What Causes Climate Change?

The Earth’s climate has always changed and evolved. Some of these changes have been due to natural causes such as volcanic eruptions, floods, forest fires etc., but quite a few of them are due to human activities. Human activities such as deforestation, burning fossil fuels, farming livestock etc., generate an enormous amount of greenhouse gases. This results in the greenhouse effect and global warming which are the major causes of climate change.

Effects of Climate Change

If the current situation of climate change continues in a similar manner, then it will impact all forms of life on the earth. The earth’s temperature will rise, the monsoon patterns will change, sea levels will rise, and storms, volcanic eruptions and natural disasters will occur frequently. The biological and ecological balance of the earth will get disturbed. The environment will get polluted and humans will not be able to get fresh air to breathe and fresh water to drink. Life on earth will come to an end.

Steps to be Taken to Reduce Climate Change

The Government of India has taken many measures to improve the dire situation of Climate Change. The Ministry of Environment and Forests is the nodal agency for climate change issues in India. It has initiated several climate-friendly measures, particularly in the area of renewable energy. India took several steps and policy initiatives to create awareness about climate change and help capacity building for adaptation measures. It has initiated a “Green India” programme under which various trees are planted to make the forest land more green and fertile.

We need to follow the path of sustainable development to effectively address the concerns of climate change. We need to minimise the use of fossil fuels, which is the major cause of global warming. We must adopt alternative sources of energy, such as hydropower, solar and wind energy to make a progressive transition to clean energy. Mahatma Gandhi said that “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not any man’s greed”. With this view, we must remodel our outlook and achieve the goal of sustainable development. By adopting clean technologies, equitable distribution of resources and addressing the issues of equity and justice, we can make our developmental process more harmonious with nature.

We hope students liked this essay on Climate Change and gathered useful information on this topic so that they can write essays in their own words. To get more study material related to the CBSE, ICSE, State Board and Competitive exams, keep visiting the BYJU’S website.

Global Warming Essay in English (100, 200, 300, 500 Words)

Global Warming is one of the biggest problems in the world. Everyone is facing some adverse effects from the increase in the temperature of the Globe worldwide. The rise in pollution and the adverse effect of the pollution disturbs the life cycle of the globe and also impacts the bad condition on the natural peace on Earth.

Hence the temperature of the globe is increasing day by day with the increase of pollution that is growing day by day. Scientists are working and researching on the project to decrease the temperature of the globe by taking some scientific steps and other eco-friendly projects and stunts that somehow help the earth reduce the temperature and decrease global warming.

In this topic, we are going to discuss Global warming, its causes, and the preventive measures that are being used to control it.

We have covered an essay pattern of Global Warming in various paragraphs of around 100 words, 200 words, 300 words, and 500 words, respectively, that helps many of the children or students of class 2 to 12th to understand Global warming and its adverse effects if not controlled in time.

Global Warming Essay 100 Words

The main phenomenon of Global Warming is that the temperature of the globe is increasing due to several problems and different issues that are responsible for warming the earth day by day. It is not an old concept, in fact, the word ‘Global Warming’ arose in the past few decades, or we can say centuries. It causes the change of the climate near the Earth’s surface and disturbs the alteration of the climatic weather because of the increase in the temperature of the globe. There are many reasons that cause Global Warming, like air, noise, or water pollution. The adverse effects of greenhouse gases cause global warming mostly.

Global Warming Essay 200 Words

The whole world is facing enormous problems caused by global warming and the adverse effects of the unnecessary change in the climatic weather due to this problem. According to the research taken by scientists, greenhouse gases affect global warming the most. Around 90 to 95% of global warming is affected by greenhouse gases. The greenhouse gases like Carbon dioxide, Carbon monoxide, Methane, some Nitrous oxides, etc released by the burning of fossil fuels. It emits heat radiation, which increases the temperature level in the air because its function is to absorb heat from the sunlight and release more heat into the environment.

Other ways of increasing the temperature of the globe are Deforestation, the Burning of excess Fossil fuels, Industrialization, Unnecessary agricultural activities, an increase in pollution, etc. This causes the depletion of the Ozone protective layer in the atmosphere that protects the Earth’s Surface from the UV radiation rays emitted from the sun. Agricultural malfunctioning processes due to the pollution and rise in the earth’s temperature destroy the soil nutrition and burn the sowed crops. The increased temperature of the globe causes the melting of the glaciers and ice of polar regions resulting in the increase in the water level in rivers, water bodies that cause floods and destruction, and other natural disturbances in biodiversity.

Global Warming Essay 300 Words

Everyone knows about the Global Warming effect and the fact that it causes destruction if global warming increases continuously, which badly destroys the existence of life on Earth. Global warming is a threat to every living being on planet Earth. The rise of global warming is caused due to the increase in Industrialization, Deforestation, Urbanization, and the increase in the various types of pollution on Earth. The major cause of the rise of Global warming is the increased emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere due to increased air pollutant like carbon dioxide, methane, carbon monoxide, ozone, nitrous oxides, etc. which emits excess heat in the form of infrared radiation by absorbing the heat from the sun rays. This heat radiation, which increases the earth’s temperature in a great extinction, causes global warming.

Global warming causes the depletion of the protective ozone layer due to excessive temperature and pollution damages the layer and causes some small holes in the ozone layer from which direct sunlight enters the Earth’s atmosphere with the UV rays and impacts major damage to the earth’s surface. Deforestation reduces trees’ existence, which absorb carbon dioxide and emits oxygen to balance greenhouse gases. Burning of the excess fossil fuels such as coal, petrol, diesel, and other fuels that produce energy burning and using personal vehicles for transportation instead of mass transportation emits an excess amount of greenhouse gases that increase global warming in a great extinction.

To prevent the existence of life on our planet, we have to take some major steps towards the benefit of the earth and to destroy the adverse effects of the monster’ Global Warming’. The damage cannot be recurred by doing anything, but we can overcome all these by not doing such thighs and mistakes that help in increasing the earth’s temperature by using preventive steps like afforestation and use of public transportation instead of personal transport, using renewable energy resources, reducing the pollution level by using the recyclable things. It is our responsibility to make our planet clean and safe.

Global Warming Essay 500 Words

Today’s generation is facing an enormous problem which is called Global Warming. Global warming is a serious and dangerous problem which means an increase in the temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. It is said that the impact of global warming on the Earth’s temperature is increased by 1 to 1.5 degrees celsius to normal temperature. The major reason for increasing the earth’s temperature is deforestation by Humans for their own benefit and due to this, the quantity of trees and forests is decreasing. The trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, but if the quantity of trees is decreasing day-by-day, then carbon dioxide will increase than normal and cause global warming in a larger quantity. The burning of fossil fuels emits an excess amount of hazardous gases such as carbon dioxide. Release of harmful gases such as CO2, CO, Methane, Nitrous Oxide, etc. emits heat radiations and toxic fumes in the atmosphere by absorbing the heat from the sunlight.

Global warming is a major cause of the unnecessary change in the climate and due to this, the weather cycle is changing day by day randomly and the living biodiversity is adversely affected because of this problem. The protective layer of the atmosphere called the Ozone layer is getting affected and damaging slowly and the layer is also becoming thinner. The burning of fossil fuel from vehicles and Industries that emits waste smokes and harmful gases results in an increase in the pollution on Earth and affects living organisms and nature.

Air pollution, Noise pollution, and Land and Water Pollution are such pollution from which the environment gets damaged and due to this, many kinds of environmental disasters occur such as the melting of Icebergs of glaciers, and polar regions which result in the increase of the water level of water bodies that causes floods and tsunamis. Water pollution and Noise pollution also cause the increase of the earth’s temperature which results in global warming and because of this situation, the living creatures and other species who survived on Earth may feel the consequences of global warming.

If we, Human beings, don’t try to control this pollution from now on, then we all are going to make this place on Earth worse than hell and suffer from our upcoming generations. Due to this unnecessary pollution, many diseases are raised that we don’t even hear about and there is no treatment found yet by the medical science that is going to attack us. So it is the major responsibility of all human beings to control global warming by controlling the increase in pollution and other adverse causes that raise global warming. To reduce pollution, we have to adopt the usage of renewable energy resources and avoid using fossil fuels, use energy-efficient products and things, increase the use of sustainable transport and enhance the infrastructure, and reduce the use of personal transport. We can also use clean and renewable energy sources like wind energy, solar energy, and tidal energy to reduce the adverse effects of global warming. We have to increase tree plantation and also switch to renewable resources that help nature and reduce the Earth’s temperature.

Paragraph on Global Warming: 150 Words

One of the biggest challenges that the environment is facing today is global warming. It is a natural phenomenon where the average temperature increases beyond the permissible limit. A warmer and earth disrupts the balance of the ecosystem and causes a negative impact on Nature. Frequent floods, droughts, heatwaves and storms take place.

It is caused by the greenhouse effect which is the consequence of the accumulation of gases like carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. These harmful gases cover the earth’s atmosphere like a blanket and prevent radiation of the sun rays. This trapped heat increases the temperature of the environment. Afforestation should be encouraged to prevent the rise of global warming. Solar and wind energy should also be used to protect the earth.

Word Meanings:

  • Phenomenon –  fact or event
  • Permissible – that can be permitted; allowable
  • Consequence – the effect, result, or outcome
  • Afforestation – establishment of a forest

Global Warming Paragraph in English

Global Warming Paragraph: 200 Words

Global warming, meaning increase in the average temperature of the earth’s atmosphere and oceans, is one of the most serious challenges facing us today. A warmer earth may lead to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level owing to melting of glaciers, and a wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife, and humans. Frequent floods, droughts, heatwaves, hurricanes and tornadoes may upset the balance of the ecosystem. Crops and food supply may also be affected.

Global warming is caused by a phenomenon known as the greenhouse effect that is brought about by the accumulation of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide released in the atmosphere during the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil, garbage, etc. These gases, wrapped around the planet earth, permit the sunrays in, but stop some of the heat from radiating back to space. This trapped heat in the earth’s atmosphere is the major cause of global warming.

To mitigate this problem, environmental pollution should be prevented at any cost. Planting of trees that absorb carbon dioxide from the air should be encouraged. Besides, alternative sources of energy like solar energy, wind energy, etc. should also be tapped.

  • Accumulation – gathering of something
  • Wrapped –  to cover or surround something
  • To mitigate – to make something less severe or painful

Essay on Global Warming: 250 Words

The problem of Global warming, of late, has become a matter of grave concern. Our dear planet is getting warmer day by day. Never before the earth has been so warm as it has been at present. The main cause of global warming is the excessive release of greenhouse gases due to human activities. Greenhouse gases such as methane, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and water vapour trap heat from the sun and warm the planet. Rapid industrialization, consumption of fossil fuel for transport and cooking, thoughtless destruction of forests at large scale are at the root of this serious problem.

Due to global warming, the Earth’s average surface temperature increased by approximately 0.6°C during the 20th century. The mass of ice in the north and south pole has started melting. The source of the water of Ganges, the Gangotri glacier is reported to have been melting at a faster pace. Moreover, the water level of the seas and oceans have risen 10-25 cm over the past 100 years. Sudden flood, irregular rainfall, earthquake and tsunami are sure indications that the temperature of the earth has been increasing alarmingly. Global warming also has a significant impact on ecosystems and biodiversity. Rising temperatures are forcing many species to migrate to new areas in search of suitable conditions. This not only results in the loss of habitats but also disrupts the whole ecological process.

In order to fight the challenge of global warming all the countries must join hands and take immediate measures to check and uproot the factors responsible for global warming. There must be a global planning to create a suitable and sustainable world for us.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Due to rapid industrialization, pollution, deforestation and burning of fossil fuels, greenhouse gases like carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide released into the atmosphere. These greenhouse gasses trap the solar rays and prevent it from escaping from the surface of the earth, thus influencing the heating of the earth’s atmosphere.

Climate change, loss of biodiversity and wildlife, rising sea levels, and many more.

We have to come forward to reduce global warming. We can do it so by stop cutting trees and planting more trees, replacing fossil-based fuels, reduction of greenhouse gases and by recycling more.

Essay on Global Warming

Global Warming Essay | Essay on Global Warming for Students and Children in English

Global Warming Essay: Global warming, as the term itself suggests, is the consistent rise in the overall average temperature of the planet. It has been noted that, since 1971, about 90% of the increased energy has been accumulated in the oceans. But, inspite of ocean’s role in storage of this energy, ‘global warming’ is used to refer to increase in average temperature of air and sea at Earth’s surface. The global temperature has risen by about 0.8° C, since the beginning of the 20th century.

Long Essay on Global Warming 500 Words in English

Below we have given a long essay on Global Warming of 500 words is helpful for classes 7, 8, 9 and 10 and Competitive Exam Aspirants. This long essay on the topic is suitable for students of class 7 to class 10, and also for competitive exam aspirants.

The greenhouse gases which cause pollution are responsible for global warming. In fact, air pollution has adverse effects on the climate. Industries which produce gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, carbon tetrachloride etc get accumulated in the air. These gases are also known as greenhouse gases. They are responsible for the rise in temperature which scientists and environmentalists fear can bring about long-term changes in the climatic conditions of the Earth. These changes can in fact, turn harmful for the survival of life on Earth and hence, something concrete should be done about them. These gases are responsible for gradual rise in temperature far beyond the normal limits needed for survival.

The greerihouse gases including CFC-11 and CFC-12 make the Earth hotter and hotter by absorbing maximum quantity of thermal radiation of the sun. These gases permit the rays of the sun to penetrate but don’t let the thermal radiations escape from the Earth’s atmosphere once they enter it, thus causing what is termed as the greenhouse effect, which is responsible for the increase in the temperature all over the world. The rise in temperature even by 1°C melts the snow at the poles which if left unchecked, will increase the water level, converting the entire landmass of the Earth into a huge sea. Another change that global warming has brought about is the reduction of forests. Thus, rain has become scanty, salinity of water has increased and even the entire water cycle stands disturbed. Moreover, due to global warming, the duration of seasons has reduced.

The tenure of summer has increased over the years and there are practically no seasons left especially in the tropical and sub-tropical regions.

This rise in temperature disturbs the rain cycle, the ecological balance, the cycle of seasons etc. It adversely affects vegetation and agriculture. Due to this, we have to face frequent floods and droughts throughout the world. With this increase in temperature and the melting of glaciers, even snowfall has reduced its occurrence and intensity. The winter temperatures are showing a gradual increase. With the warming of the planet there is also a rise in humidity because the rise in temperature has increased the rate of evaporation. Even though rains may increase, yet they will not match up to the rate with which the land gets dry due to rise in heat. Thus, even fertile regions might slowly get converted into dry lands and deserts. Storms and hurricanes will be frequent.

If the present trend of global temperature rise, continues, then, it is projected, that by 2030, maize production in Southern Africa could decrease by upto 30%. The yield in India could also plummet by 30-40%. This would increase the risk of malnutrition.

There is a danger of coastal regions drowning due to increase in sea level with the shrinking of glaciers. Thus there is a grave danger of an entire civilisation becoming extinct in a watery grave. Animals and plants are also finding it difficult to cope up with these temperature changes. Species after species of both flora and fauna might disappear from the face of the Earth. Not only this, even human life is getting affected by global warming. Epidemics are spreading frequently. There is heat stress responsible for killing people. Diseases like dengue fever, yellow fever and encephalitis are indirect results of global warming.

Governments all over the world are concerned about such issues. In 1992, the Earth Summit was held at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where 150 countries agreed to confront the problem of greenhouse gases. In 1997, in Japan, 160 nations signed an agreement called Kyoto Protocol that commits state parties to reduce greenhouse gases emissions, based on the notion that global warming exists and man-made CO 2 emissions have caused it. By May, 2011 the number increased to 194. The 2011 United Nations Climate Change Conference was held in Durban, South Africa, from 20 November to 9 December, 2011. The primary focus of this 17th session of the conference was to secure a global climate agreement. The protocol calls upon the developed nations to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases upto 5% by 2012. The treaty still awaits to be implemented by the developed countries, especially the US.

Global Warming Essay

Short Essay on Global Warming 200 Words in English

Below we have given a short essay on Global Warming is for Classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. This short essay on the topic is suitable for students of class 6 and below.

Agreements and treaties signed at international level will not help reduce global warming. Serious and concrete efforts need to be made at the national and regional levels. The local governments should work against the emissions of the greenhouse gases by modernising the vehicles, creating awareness among the people, selling environment-friendly appliances, etc. Such efforts are needed by the people at the grass-root level. Only then we can combat this problem in an effective way.

At home and workplaces, electrical and electronic devices must be turned off and unplugged when not in use. Old and inefficient appliances must be replaced, as they consume a lot of energy. Locally grown and produced food should be preferred over that in malls and chain outlets. Use of paper should be minimised and re-use of plastics, cans etc should be encouraged. The amount of material used for packaging goods must be reduced.

Small steps often lead to big changes. It’s high time, that we realise where and how can we reduce our carbon footprints. After all, at present, Earth is the only planet where life exists. We have nowhere else to go.

Essay on Consequences of Global-Warming

Global warming is not a myth. Many discard the fact that our planet is dying because of our insolent behavior and misuse of natural resources. Over the years, scientists from all over the world have recorded the changes in wind patterns, atmospheric pressure, temperature, humidity, and other meteorological factors and concluded that global warming is real and quite scary. It has been estimated that we have only a decade left to make drastic changes and save the planet or the effects of global warming will become irreversible.

Global warming is a manmade phenomenon that occurs due to the accumulation of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. These gases originate from artificial processes in different industries and the vigorous use of fossil fuels. These gases make a blanket covering the entire world that does not let the surface heat to pass. This entrapment of heat causes an abrupt increase in temperature harming the ecosystem of the entire planet.

If you think that the slightest increase in temperature will do nothing then you need to think again. Even if there is a slight increase in the average temperature, the ice caps melt faster, the glaciers are receding, the water level is increasing and slowly engulfing the islands. It has been recorded that the highest temperature has gone to 54°C. The fact that a degree rise of temperature is the result of the accumulation of so much heat is not easily realized.

It is because of our abrupt use of natural resources and deforestation that have resulted in such a crisis. We have witnessed severe floods, droughts, tsunamis, hurricanes, and other natural disasters with an elevated frequency. In fact, we have also seen an abrupt change in the seasonal configuration over a few decades. Even though these changes have taken place over a few decades, it is quite abrupt and unprecedented for the other animals and plants. These changes are extremely harming the wellbeing of the plants and animals in all ecosystems. Whether it is melting polar ice caps or the mountain glaciers, everywhere we can find the bad effects of global warming.

One of the biggest blows we received in recent years is the heavy forest fire that took down a major part of the Amazon rainforest. The Amazon and the African forests are considered to be the two lungs of the entire world. The cumulating smoke from vehicles, factories, and forest fires is resulting in a severe drop in the air quality we breathe. Humans and all other land animals are breathing toxic air.

The increase in temperature is melting the ice caps. In fact, the marine water source is also rising in volume due to the temperature rise. This is affecting the coral reefs and other ecosystems in the marine world. The islands are gradually going under the sea along with the coastal cities. The coastal forests are unable to handle the severity of the storms and oceanic waves. The emission of toxic chemicals and gases in the atmosphere has also increased the acidic level of rainwater resulting in the hampered lifespan of aquatic animals. We have contributed to this grave problem by deforesting lands to build concrete jungles leaving our planet suffocate. The rise in deforestation has also lead to more damages that we cannot imagine. It is time to act quickly and cautiously to save the only planet we have. It is our responsibility to save this habitat and let other animals live peacefully. We need to stop acting selfish and think of the harmony of all ecosystems we are a part of. It is time to take action to eradicate global warming and restore the balance we have lost within a few centuries.

FAQs on Consequences of Global-Warming Essay

1. What are the Greenhouses Gases?

Greenhouses gases are the toxic byproducts of various industrial processes and fossil fuel combustion that accumulate in our atmosphere. They are lighter than the air we breathe. These gases accumulate and form a blanket over the earth’s surface. The prime property of these gases is that they pass the heat waves coming from the sun but block the ones that are emitted by the earth’s surface. Hence, the heat is trapped in between the earth’s surface and the blanket of greenhouses gases causing a rapid rise in the temperature.

2. What is Causing More Harm while Controlling Global Warming?

The uncontrolled cutting of trees in the forests and forest fires are causing more harm and hampering global warming prevention measures. People are becoming more cautious and concerned regarding global warming and taking necessary measures from their end. The use of fossil fuels without any control is also contributing to this grave problem. We need to stop the unnecessary use of fossil fuels by switching to greener energy sources. Factories should emit treated gases from their chimneys. Almost everything contributes to global warming. We need to educate ourselves and act accordingly.

3.  How can We Make a Difference?

As mentioned earlier, almost everything we use and need in the contemporary world, we find the use of fossil fuels and malpractices done by the factories that harm the environment by contributing to global warming issues. We need to make choices that are healthier for Mother Nature. We should use greener and alternative energy sources. Our needs and wants should be minimized. Planting trees will slow down global warming but we should act actively in different verticals to stop global warming.

Essay No. 01

Global Warming

Synopsis:  The year 1998 has been the hottest on record so far.  The 1990’s have seen the three hottest years.  The average temperature has risen by 0.2 * C in the recent decades.  As a result of global warming three have been huge and unprecedented floods, storms, cyclones etc. resulting n destruction on vast scales Ion recent years the concentration of carbon dioxide, methane etc. have increased alarmingly. These greenhouse gases cause global warming and rise in earth’s temperature.  There has been increase ht general awareness about the dangers of global warming but unfortunately  nothing substantial has been dine to check and percent the menace.

This inordinate warmth has begun to hit the earth and the entire living world.  It is estimated that average temperature has risen by 0.2C every decade; the threat of the global warming is real and immense.  A lot of imbalance has been creased in nature by human activates.  Consequently three have been unprecedented and unexpected devastation’s storms, etc, in various parts of the world especially into eh coastal and low-lying regions.

Water is one of the essential ingredients of life.  Water is life and without water there cannot be life at all; the each is the only living planet because there are water   the other planets like Mrs., Jupiter, etc, are dead, deserted and lifeless because there is no life-supporting water.  Presence of water-means also the presence of other ingredients of life.  The total replenishes able, ground water resources in the country have been estimated at 45.22m.ha. Per year.

There is often scarcity of drinking water.  There are droughts and famines causing untold misery, death and destruction.  Today there are thousands of villages and towns acing an acute drinking water-shortage.  Even in cities item huge water-supply plants there is not sufficient water and their supply is often limited to a very short period of the day…  With the rapidly increasing pressure of population on our water resources, more and more villages, towns and cities are facing the problem. The then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had to launch a drinking water mission and programmed in 1986 to meet the drinking water requirements.  Then drinking water was available to only 30 per cent of the country’s population and today theoretically it is available to 91 per cent.  But the investigations have shown that a large percentage of drinking water schemes remain non-functional for a very long time of the year and so the safe and potable water in no available to the people.

A team of scientists and researchers of Center for Sconce and Environment, New Delhi ha shade detailed study of the problem, its dimensions and solution.  They have emphasized the need to traditional wisdom of water harvesting.  They have given many details and data nod proved how useful it can be to make use of our time-tasted, age-old and traditional water harvesting system. These traditional methods of water harvesting have been in constant practice from time immemorial in the country, among various communities and villages.

Heavy showers are not uncommon in the country.  It receives rain for about 100 hours each year spread over about 50 days in a year.  Cherapunji in India is the wettest place in the world which receives annual rainfall of about 15,000 mm and yet the village often faces drinking water shortage because of side spread deforestation resulting in drying up of water sources soon after torrential rainy season is over.  On the other hand, Jaywalker in Rajasthan has just about 100 mm of annual rainfall and yet this desert town was able to collect enough water for its use.  But it too has started facing the drinking water shortages of late since government water supply system has begun bass on tapping of limited ground water neglecting traditional wisdom of water.

The problem of over-exploitation and pollution of our water resources is really grave.  According to a UN report two-thirds of mankind will suffer moderate to severe water crisis within next 30 years if remedial steps are not taken.  World Bank report estimates 5 million deaths from unsafe drinking water and investments to the tune of $ 600 billion worldwide to repair and improve water delivery system.

We need to have greater respect for the earth and its environment.  It is hath time that all the peoples of the world realize the gravity of problem and make determined and combined efforts to redact global warming appreciably.  Our efforts to check the global warming should include both preventive and curative measure’s we should develop both long and short term strategies to overcome the devil of environmental pollution.

Essay No. 2

Global warming is the greatest challenge facing our planet. It is, in fact, the increase in the temperature of the earth’s neon-surface air. It is one of the most current and widely discussed factor. It has far-reaching impact on biodiversity and climatic conditions of the planet. Several current trends clearly demonstrate that global warming is directly impacting on rising sea levels, the melting of ice caps and significant worldwide climate changes. In short, global warming represents a fundamental threat to all living things on earth

Global average temperature rose significantly during the past century. The prevailing scientific view is that most of the temperature increases since mid-20 th century has been caused by increases in atmospheric greenhouse gas  concentrations produced by human  activity. Most scientists agree that planet’s temperature has risen 0.5 degree Celsius since 1900 and will continue to increase at an increasing rate. As a result, the world is getting warmer. The year 1990 was the hottest year in the last century

Together with 1991 , the years of 1983, 1987 1998 and 1989 have been measured to be the warmest six years in the last hundred years. The year 1991 was the second warmest year of the past century. The consequences of the rise in temperature is being felt all over the globe the findings of scientific research done in this field reveal that the temperature of the earth likely to rise from 1.4 C to 5.8 C within a period of 100 years.

Unfortunately, the imbalance which we have created between our life and earth is  already showing the signs disasters in the form of flood, cyclones, landslides, tsunami, drought, etc. if the imbalance continues to rise, one day this will pose a question mark on the existence of this planet. Carbon dioxide (CO2) which is an important constituent of environment is causing a warming effect on the earth’s surface.

It increases the evaporation of water into the atmosphere. Since water vapour itself is a greenhouse gas, this causes still more warming. The warming causes more water vapour to be evaporated. The CO2 level is expected to rise in future due to ongoing burning of fossil fuels and land use change. The rate of rise will depend largely on uncertain economic, sociological, technological and natural developments. Other gases such as methane, CFCs, nitrous oxide, tropospheric ozone are also responsible for global warming. Increases in all these gases are due to explosive population growth, increased gases are due to explosive population  growth, increased industrial expansion, technological advancement, deforestation and growing urbanization, etc

Tree play a significant role in the global carbon cycle. They are the largest land-based mechanism for removing carbon  dioxide from the air. Deforestation is checking these positive processes. It is the second principle cause of atmospheric carbon emissions entering the atmosphere, by the burning and cutting of 34 million acres of trees each year. Every day over 5500  acres of rainforest are destroyed. As a consequence of massive loss of forests, global CO2 levels rise approximately 0.4 per cent each year, the levels not experienced on this planet for millions of years. As we know the forests are the great absorbs of CO2.

There is a close relation between global warming and population growth. Today the large population on earth is using the technologies which are destructive for the earth. Approximately, 80 per cent of atmospheric CO2 increases are due to man’s use of fossil fuels either in the form of coal, gas or oil. A large portion of carbon emission is attributed to the burning of gasoline in internal –combustion engine of vehicles. Vehicles with poor gas mileage contribute the most to global warming. Besides, the sulphur group gas is the most harmful for this. Its contribution is 30 per cent in global warming. This gas is also emitted from the burning of fossil fuels.

Increase in global temperatures will cause rise in sea level. It will lead to melting of glaciers, changes in rainfall patterns, increased intensity and frequency of extreme weather. As per the latest survey report the rate of melting of glaciers has seen sharp increase in recent times. Even   those  glaciers are affected form global warming which have been considered permanent. The shrinking of glaciers is going to pose a major problem of drinking water.

The sea levels as a result of melting of glaciers have risen from 0.35 mm to 0.4 mm. scientists have warned in their reports that most of the glaciers will disappear within a period of 15 to 25 years. It will create problems of drinking water and food grains in most of the North American countries. India is not unaffected from it. The Himalayan glaciers have shrunk about 30 per cent after 1970.

The rise in sea levels is a major cause of concern. A large number of cities located in coastal areas will submerge in the sea. Besides, many island countries will ultimately “lose their existence and will be washed away from the surface of the earth. The damage of rising sea levels is diverse. Buildings and roads close to the water could be flooded and they could suffer damage form hurricanes and tropical storms.   Experts believe that global warming could increase the intensity of hurricanes by over 50 per cent. In addition, as the sea rises, beach erosion takes place, particularly on steep banks.

Wetlands are lost as the level rises. Rise in atmospheric temperature will lead to the our break of air-borne and water. Borne diseases. It would also contribute to the rise in death caused by heat. The problem of drought would be frequent. Consequently, malnutrition and starvation will pose serious challenge before humanity.

Global warming is a great threat to the flora and fauna of the earth. A large number of species of them may become extinct.

The expanse of desert would increase. Low rainfall and rising temperature could add to the intensity and frequency of duty storm. This in turn will immensely affect the quality of agricultural land, ultimately causing adverse effect on agricultural produce. It would have far- reaching socio-economic impact.

In Indian context, the impact of global warming is a matter grave concern. As is well known, India is mainly and agricultural country and agriculture here is gamble of the monsoon, e.g. largely depending on rainfall. Though it is to affect the whole country, the worst likely impact would be on central and northern India which is high yielding part of the country. These are the regions which produce the largest agricultural yield. The rise in atmospheric temperature and fall in rain would naturally result in decline in crop production. Moreover, it would have great effect on biodiversity as well.

The growing concerns over global temperatures have led to the nations, states, corporations and individuals to draw out a plan of action to avert the situation. As a result the world’s primary international agreement on combating global warming was reached in Kyoto in 1997 which came to be known as Kyoto protocol. However, ten years have passed; the situation does not appear to be very changed. It seems that the member countries are not very serious about its devastating effects.

In addition, forestation can be of great help in this regard. Planting more trees and reducing timber cuts worldwide will help restore the imbalance. Secondly, we must follow on environmental policy of reduce, reuse, recycle’, i.e. promoting the reuse of anything. Thirdly, the use of fuel – efficient vehicles should be promoted as these vehicles have lower emissions of harmful gases. Fourthly, every individual should be aware of the importance of the protecting environment, besides m eco-friendly technologies must be promoted, and must be substituted with the technologies which cause great emission of global warming gases. Public awareness campaign can be of great help in this regard because unless each and every individual is aware only governments’ effect cannot bring desired difference.

Essay No. 03

An increase in the temperature of earth due to fossil fuels, industry, and agricultural processes caused by human, natural, and other gas emissions is termed as global warming. Short-wave solar radiation sinks into the Earth’s atmosphere and warms its surface; while long wave infrared radiation emitted by earth’s surface is absorbed, and then re-emitted by trace gases. Due to greenhouse gases climate changes occur in our earth’s atmosphere. Higher concentrations of greenhouse gases, which are present in our atmosphere, create problems because they enhance the heat trapping capacity of our earth. There are some misconceptions about global warming. Some have opinion that pollution is the cause of global warming, but the fact of global warming is the result of burning fossil fuels, coal, and oil that release abundant quantities of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. Another misconception is that nuclear power causes climate change. Nuclear power actually declines emissions of carbon dioxide when used instead of coal. The name is misleading because in some places, it will actually become colder. A major fraction of scientists believe global warming is a process underway and that it is human-induced.

The gases responsible for greenhouse effect are carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere when solid waste, fossil fuels, wood, and wood products are burned. Human activities add to the levels of these gasses, causing severe problems. The burning of solid waste, fossil fuels, and wood products are major causes. Emissions from homes and factories are responsible for about 80% of today’s carbon dioxide emissions, 25% of methane, and 20% of the nitrous oxide emissions. Global warming is posing a danger to a human’s health. It has a negative affect on climate, which adversely affects humans. An increase in temperature can result in a longer life cycle for diseases or the agents spreading them. Effects of global warming on human health might not be immediately identified. Birds and animals are the species that will be affected by a change in the climate. The ecosystems of fish will also be affected by global warming in a number of ways. Fish may migrate to different areas. Global warming can affect our future ability to obtain food. Global warming brings about a change in climate, which alters the growth pattern of plants and animals leading to a change in the eating patterns of humans. Enhanced precipitation is one effect of global warming that could spell devastating results. First, the quality of crops would be affected by an increase in precipitation. Second, increasing rain could lead to an increase in soil erosion. We can prevent global warming by numerous ways. Car pooling, efficient use of energy, and plantation of trees are ways to help prevent global warming. The future of emissions damage depends on several factors, demographics, economics, technology, policies and institutional developments. Without the help of emissions control policies, CO2 levels are projected to be 30-150% higher than today’s levels in 2100. Our renewable resources will be very limited. With effective cooperation from citizens and government officials, we can slow down the effect of global warming by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In simple words, global warming means a rise in the earth’s average temperature. The main reason contributing to global warming is the greenhouse effect. The primary effect can be seen on our glaciers, as they are melting and raising the sea level, affecting human existence. The rise in water temperature is affecting marine life, and climate change triggered by global warming is creating extreme weather conditions. Deforestation and mindless use of our natural resources are some factors behind global warming. We must stop activities harming our nature’s balance to control global warming.

Paragraph On 'Global Warming' For Children

Writing on topics like global warming enhances thinking and evaluating abilities. Given below is an essay for classes 1, 2 and 3 on global warming for their reference:

We are living in an age where there are many threats to the existence of our beautiful planet. But, the most crucial one is global warming. It is a concern among many intellectuals, politicians, researchers, policymakers, geographical experts, etc., as it endangers living beings’ very survival. So, what is global warming? The continuous rise in the temperature of the earth is called global warming. It is said that the earth’s temperature has risen by 0.08 degrees celsius every ten years since 1880. The leading cause behind global warming is human’s careless and excessive use of natural resources. The depletion of green cover and the rise in the greenhouse gases like CO2 in the atmosphere are other factors behind global warming. The primary effect on the planet due to global warming is climate change. We observe a drastic shift in monsoon patterns every year and experience drought and floods like calamities. Many other notable changes are happening due to global warming. For example, heat waves have increased, some crucial animals have extincted, the effect on marine life is relentless, our glaciers have shrunk, and many more. We need to understand this and work on ways to improve the living quality on earth. Initiatives like planting trees, adopting spaces and making them sustainable are ways to improve this world. Even small things like cycling to school instead of using the car or public transport are a small way we can make a difference.

Global warming is such a sensitive issue that needs to be addressed faster. Our future generations are going to play a significant role in the same. So, given below is an essay for class 3 on global warming.

Nature has given us so much to use, enjoy, explore and value. But our greed has destroyed everything- the very purpose of this beautiful earth. Now, we are on the edge of destruction as nature has started showing signs of floods, earthquakes, droughts, etc. But, one of the major challenges we are facing now is global warming, and all the points mentioned above are the outcome of this issue.

What Is Global Warming?

In simple words, global warming is the gradual increase in the earth’s temperature due to the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect or greenhouse gases like CO2, methane, etc., are good for the planet as these gases capture the heat from the sun and keep the atmosphere warm and liveable for living beings, but an increase in these greenhouse gases leads to more heat trap on earth which causes unnecessary earth heat up and lead to global warming.

What Are The Causes And Effects Of Global Warming?

There are many causes and effects of global warming –

Causes of Global Warming

  • Greenhouse effect or greenhouse gases:  Global warming happens when increased greenhouse gases like CO2, methane, and other pollutants absorb the sun’s heat more than the requirement and make the planet hotter.
  • Volcanic eruptions:  These eruptions increase carbon dioxide, leading to global warming.
  • Excessive use of automobiles: Excessive vehicles on the road lead to unnecessary emission of carbon dioxide gas into the environment, which is responsible for global warming.
  • Deforestation:  The careless cutting of forest for building houses and sky-rises is depleting our green cover. So the absorption of carbon dioxide is decreasing, leading to global warming.
  • Fossil fuel burning:  Excessive fossil fuel burning leads to unwanted carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere. Again, contribution to global warming.

Effects of global warming

  • Climate change:  Researchers agree that climate change is happening due to global warming. Earth’s rising temperature triggers heat waves, excessive rainfall, frequent droughts, etc.
  • Disappearing glaciers:  Due to the rising temperature of the earth, glaciers are melting rapidly, resulting in rising sea levels.
  • Extinct animals:  Many animals and birds go extinct due to unfavourable climatic conditions.
  • Hampered agriculture:  Heavy rainfall in some places, drought in others, and heat waves destroy agriculture.

How Can Global Warming Be Prevented?

  • Plant more trees:  A collective plantation drive should be initiated to compensate for the green cover. More trees and less CO2 in the environment can lead to controlled global warming.
  • Take public transport:  Take public transport whenever possible. Don’t use private vehicles for luxury. This way, fewer greenhouse gases will get emitted into the atmosphere, reducing global warming.
  • Save energy:  Use energy-sufficient appliances at home. Energy efficiency is the most cost-effective way to lessen unwanted environmental emissions.
  • Conserve natural resources:  We need to stop the irrelevant overuse of our natural resources, which include water, soil, fossils, etc., for a better future and controlled global warming.

By writing an essay on global warming, your child learns about this global concern in detail, and may understand the importance of keeping things in check. They may contribute to taking preventive measures to stop global warming.

Global warming is a serious problem for our environment right now. Things like factories growing quickly, more people, and pollution are making global warming worse. It means the Earth’s surface is getting hotter on average over the past hundred years.

For a while now, the Earth’s temperature has been going up. This has affected animals, people, and everything that lives here. Ice is melting in places like glaciers, causing water shortages, floods, and erosion in some countries. All of this happens because of global warming.

Global warming means the slow increase in the Earth’s overall atmospheric temperature. Many things we do are slowly making the temperature rise. It’s causing our ice glaciers to melt quickly, which is really bad for the Earth and people.

What is Global Warming?

Global warming refers to the rising global temperatures of the Earth’s atmosphere. It’s primarily caused by the increase in greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels and deforestation. As a result, we see melting polar ice and rising sea levels. This change in temperature can also lead to extreme weather events and affect our ecological balance. Efforts like sustainable energy adoption, promoting renewable resources, and international agreements like the Paris Agreement and Kyoto Protocol aim to combat this issue. Understanding global warming is crucial because of its significant environmental impact and the need for climate adaptation.

Global Warming Causes

Global warming is a big concern for our planet. Let’s understand its causes in simple words:

  • Greenhouse gases: Think of these like a blanket around the Earth. When we release more of these gases, especially carbon dioxide emissions and methane emissions, the Earth gets warmer.
  • Fossil fuels: When we burn coal, oil, and gas for energy, we release a lot of harmful gases into the Earth’s atmosphere. This is a major reason behind the global temperature rise.
  • Deforestation: Trees absorb carbon dioxide, one of the main greenhouse gases. When we cut down trees, we lose a big helper in fighting global warming.
  • Carbon footprint: Everything we do, from driving cars to using electricity, leaves a mark called a carbon footprint. The bigger our footprint, the more we contribute to global warming.
  • Industrial processes: Factories and industries release gases that contribute to the warming. This has a huge environmental impact.
  • Melting polar ice and rising sea levels: As the Earth gets warmer, ice in the poles melts. This makes the sea levels rise, which is a result and cause of global warming.
  • Ozone depletion: The ozone layer protects us from the sun’s harmful rays. But certain actions of ours damage this layer, making the Earth warmer.
  • Farming and agriculture : Practices like rice cultivation produce methane, a greenhouse gas. Cows also produce methane, adding to the problem.

Effects of Global Warming

Global warming is causing our planet to heat up. When people talk about “climate change”, they’re often referring to the changes happening because of global warming. So, what effects is this warming having on our world?

  • Rising Sea Levels : One major problem is the melting polar ice. As ice in places like Antarctica and Greenland melts, it causes sea levels to rise. This can lead to flooding in coastal areas.
  • Extreme Weather : We’re seeing more extreme weather events. This means more intense storms, hurricanes, heatwaves, and heavy rainfall.
  • Hotter Temperatures : The global temperature rise is making summers hotter and winters milder in many places.
  • Melting Glaciers : Not just the polar ice, but glaciers around the world are melting too. This glacier retreat can affect the water supply for many people.
  • Harm to Animals and Plants : Biodiversity loss is a big concern. Many animals and plants can’t cope with the changes, leading to a disruption in ecosystems.
  • Ocean Changes : The extra carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere is causing ocean acidification. This makes it harder for creatures like coral and some shellfish to survive.
  • Human Health Risks : Warmer temperatures can lead to health problems. It can also spread diseases carried by mosquitoes, like malaria.
  • Deforestation : While deforestation is more a cause than an effect, the loss of trees makes global warming worse. Trees help absorb CO2, which is one of the greenhouse gases causing the Earth’s atmosphere to warm up.
  • Shift in Habitats : With the Earth’s atmosphere changing, many animals are moving to different places to find suitable living conditions.
  • Economic Impact : There’s an environmental impact, but also an economic one. For instance, farmers can struggle with unpredictable weather, affecting food prices.

Global Warming Solutions

Global warming is a real concern, but there are solutions that can help slow down the temperature rise on Earth. Let’s discuss some of them in simple terms:

  • Green Technology : Adopting green technologies means using methods and devices that don’t harm the environment. For instance, instead of burning coal, we can use solar panels to produce electricity.
  • Renewable Resources : These are natural sources of energy that won’t run out, like sun and wind. By investing more in solar power and wind energy, we can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels .
  • Reduce Carbon Footprint : This means trying to lessen the amount of carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas ) we release into the Earth’s atmosphere . Simple actions like turning off lights when not needed or walking instead of driving can make a difference.
  • Reforestation : Planting more trees is essential. Trees absorb carbon dioxide, which helps in tackling carbon dioxide emissions . On the flip side, deforestation , or cutting down trees, can accelerate global warming.
  • Conservation Efforts : This involves using resources wisely. For instance, turning off the tap while brushing or using both sides of the paper.
  • Educate on Climate Change : Knowledge is power. When more people understand the real dangers of global warming and climate change , they’re more likely to take action.
  • Supporting Policies : There are international agreements like the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement aimed at reducing the adverse effects of global warming. Supporting such policies and initiatives can have a global impact.
  • Clean Energy Solutions : This involves developing and using energy methods that produce less pollution. Think of electric cars or biofuels.
  • Climate Adaptation : This means making changes to better deal with the effects of global warming. For example, if an area is facing frequent flooding due to rising sea levels , building higher sea walls might be a solution.
  • Reduce Methane Emissions : Methane is another greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming. By managing waste better and reducing leakage from oil and gas industries, we can curb its release.

Essay on Global Warming in 250 Words

It is a steady process of continuous rise in the level of Earth temperature. Global Warming has become one of the biggest problems faced by the world now. It is believed that increased levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases on the earth are the main reasons for heating the earth’s atmosphere. If it is not noticed and solved immediately by the efforts of all countries worldwide, it would boom its effects and cause end of life on the earth with a day.

Its threatening effects ang day by day and creating danger for human life. However Global Warming is the leading and only reason of rising sea levels, flooding, changes in weather patterns, storms, cyclone, epidemic, lack of food, death, etc. The only solution to solve the issue of global Warming is the individual level social awareness. People must be aware of its meaning, cause, harmful effects, and other things about global Warming to get it warming worldwide and make the possibilities of life on earth forever as usual.

People should stop producing C02 by just eliminating their lousy eliminating as controlling the use of oil, coal and gas, inhibiting cut, ting plants (as they are the main source of absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen), minimizing the use of electricity, etc. Just small changes in everyone’s life all over the world, we can stop the huge negative changes in the atmosphere by lessening the effects of global Warming and even stopping it.

It is the continuous rise in warming of the earth’s surface due to the increased level of carbon dioxide gas in the environment. Global Warming has become a big issue which need to solved that needs positive initiation by countries all over the world. With a gradual increase, the earth’s temperature calls various threats as well as makes the and makes life’s existence. It enhances the gradual and permanent changes in the earth’s climate and thus affecting nature’s balance.

As the Earth gets hotter, it causes many problems and upsets how nature works. This heat change makes long-term differences in our weather, affecting nature. The rise in carbon dioxide (CO2) has big impacts too.

Rise in the CO2 level, the earth impacts the human life to a g level through continued heat waves, sudden occurrence of a strong storms, unpredictable and unexpected cyclone, damage to ozone layer, floods, the heavy rain, drought, lack, and food, diseases, death etc. It has researched that increasing emissions of CO2 in the atmosphere is because of the nonstop burning of constantans, usage of fertilizers, cutting forests, extra use of electricity, gases used in refrigerator etc. According to the e statistics, it has noted that by 2020 global Warming may boom its bad effects if it is not taken under control as CO2 emissions are increasing continuously.

The increasing level of CO2 causes greenhouse effect on the earth in which all the greenhouse gases (water vapour, CO2, methane, ozone) absorbs thermal radiation, which in turn re-radiated to all directions and come back to earth surface causing increase in the temperature of earth surface and also lead to global Warming.

In order to stop the life threatening effects of the global Warming, we should take a permanent break from all the bad habits causing increase in the CO2 level and other green house gases leading to the green house effect and then earth surface warming. We should stop deforestation, lessen the use of electricity, stop the burning of wood, etc.

Essay on Global Warming in 400 Words

Global Warming the big environmental issue we facing today as a greatest challenge which we need to get it solved permanently. In fact, global Warming is the continuous and steady process of increasing in the temperature of earth surface. It needs to discussed widely by all countries worldwide to stop the effects of it. It has impacted the nature’s balance, biodiversity and also climatic conditions of the earth over decades.

Green house gases like CO2, methane are the main reasons of increasing the global Warming on the earth which directly impacts the rising sea levels, melting ice caps, glaciers, unexpected changing climate which represents life threats on the earth. According to the statistic, it has estimated that earth temperature has increased to a great level since mid 20th century due to the increased atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations globally because of the increased demand of the human living standard.

It has measured that year like 1983, 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1991 as the warmest six years of the past century. This increasing global Warming calls the unexpected disasters on the earth like flood, cyclones, tsunami, drought, landslides, ice melting, lack of food, epidemic diseases, death etc thus causing imbalance to the nature’s phenomenon and indicating end of life existence on this planet.

Increasing global Warming lead to the more water evaporation from earth into the atmosphere, which in turn become a greenhouse gas and again causes rise in the global Warming. Other processes like burning of fossil fuels, use of fertilizers, rise in other gases like CFCs, tropospheric ozone and nitrous oxide are also the reasons of global Warming. The ultimate causes of such reasons are the technological advancement, population explosion, increasing demand of industrial expansion, deforestation, priority towards urbanization, etc.

Essay on Global Warming in 800 Words

What is Global Warming

Global Warming is a gradual process of heating of earth’s surface and also whole environment including oceans, ice caps, etc. The global rise in atmospheric temperature has clearly noticed in the recent years. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, in the past century there is increase in the earth’s surface average temperature by around 1.4 degree Fahrenheit (means 0.8 degrees Celsius). It has also estimated that global temperature may increase by another 2 to 11.5 degrees F in the next century.

Causes of Global Warming

There are many causes of global Warming , some are natural causes and some human made causes. The most important cause and of global Warming is greenhouse gases which generated by some natural processes as well as human activities. The increase in the level of green house gases has seen in the 20 th century because of the increasing population, economy and use of energy. Increasing demand of industrialization in the modern world to fulfill almost each need is causing the release of variety of green house gases through many industrial processes in the atmosphere.

The release of carbon dioxide (CO2) and sulphur dioxide (SO2) gas has increased in the recent years by 10-fold. The release of carbon dioxide gas varies according to the natural and industrial processes including photosynthesis and oxidation cycles. Methane is another green house gas release in the atmosphere by the anaerobic decomposition of organic materials. Other greenhouse gases are like oxides of nitrogen (nitrous oxide), halocarbons, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), chlorine and bromine compounds, etc. Such green house gases get collected to the atmosphere and disturb the radiative balance of atmosphere. They have capability to absorb heat radiations and cause Warming of the earth surface.

Another cause of global Warming is ozone depletion means declination of ozone layer over Antarctica. Ozone layer is declining day by day by increasing release of chlorofluorocarbon gas. A human generated cause of global Warming. Chlorofluorocarbon gas used at many places as aerosol propellants in the industrial cleaning fluids and also in the refrigerators, the gradual release of which causes declination to the ozone layer in the atmosphere.

What is Ozone Layer

Ozone layer causes protection to the earth surface by inhibiting the harmful sun rays to coming to the earth. However, gradually declining ozone layer is the big indication of increasing global Warming of the earth surface. Harmful ultraviolet sun rays entering to the biosphere and get absorbed by the green houses gases which ultimately increase the global Warming. According to the statistics, it has estimated that the size of ozone hole has been twice the size of Antarctica (more than 25 million km2) by 2000. There is no any clear trend of ozone layer declination in the winter or summer seasons.

Presence of various aerosols in the atmosphere is also causing earth’s surface temperature to increase. Atmospheric aerosols are fully capable to scatter (causes cooling to the planet) and absorb (makes air warm) the solar and infrared radiations. They are also capable to change the microphysical and chemical properties of the clouds and possibly their lifetime and extent. The increasing amount of aerosols in the atmosphere is because of human contribution. Dust produced by agriculture, organic droplets and soot particles produced by biomass burning, and aerosols produced by the industrial processes through the burning of wide variety of products in the manufacturing process. However various emissions by means of transport generate different pollutants which get converted to the aerosols through many chemical reactions in the atmosphere.

The effects of global Warming have been very clear in the recent years because of increasing sources of global Warming. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, it has recorded that there were 150 glaciers located in the Montana’s Glacier National Park however because of increasing effect of global Warming, only 25 glaciers left. Huge level climate changes are making hurricanes more dangerous and powerful. Natural storms are getting so strong by taking energy from temperature difference (of cold upper atmosphere and warm Tropical Ocean). Year 2012 has recorded as hottest year since 1895 and year 2013 together with 2003 as the warmest year since 1880.

Global Warming causes lot of climate changes in the atmosphere such as increasing summer season, decreasing winter season, increasing temperature, changes in air circulation patterns, jet stream, rain without season, melting ice caps, declining ozone layer, occurrence of heavy storms, cyclones, flood, drought, and so many effects.

Solutions of Global Warming

Many awareness programmes and programmes to reduce global Warming have run and implemented by the government agencies, business leaders, private sectors, NGOs, etc. Some of the damages through global Warming cannot returned by the solution (like melting of ice caps). However, we should not get back and try everyone’s best to reduce effects of global Warming by reducing the human causes of global Warming. We should try to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere and adopt some climate changes which are already happening for years. Instead of using electrical energy we should try using clean energy or energy produced by solar system, wind and geothermal. Reducing the level of coal and oil burning, use of transportation means, use of electrical devices, etc., may reduce the global Warming to a great level.

Essay on role of human activities in global warming.

We all know that we are facing global warming nowadays. It is also evident that human activities are the major reason behind the rise in this issue. If we do not make collective changes, we will soon face an environmental catastrophe. The reports which you see and read are enough to worry you for. However, it is still not too late. We can help the earth and living beings to reverse it all. We need to come together and give up on these human activities which contribute to global warming.

essay on role of human activities in global warming

Human Activities Causing Global Warming

We all are guilty of harming the planet for our convenience and comfort. It even means something as little as traveling and transportation. However, it is not that little because it has a huge impact. The vehicles you see on the road, air and water get power through fossil fuels. When they burn these, it releases a number of pollutants including carbon. This hampers the air and water quality. Moreover, it also raises the temperature of the earth. Thus, it contributes greatly to global warming.

Furthermore, we have industrialization. As we are now moving to industries more and more, global warming is also increasing rapidly. The industries release all kinds of toxins in the air and water. All this pollutes the atmosphere and releases harmful gases. The overuse of electricity is also a great cause behind this. We must waste electricity and use it responsibly. It means more fossil fuels get burned as you waste more electricity .

Moreover, deforestation is also a great contributor to global warming. Humans clear millions of acres of forests every year for commercial needs. We do not realize or simply choose to ignore that these forests have large amounts of carbon. When we remove them, it does not get absorbed into trees. This causes an increased level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere as well as hampers the ecosystem.

Ways to Prevent Global Warming

As these activities are caused by humans, we can only prevent them from happening. If each person does their part, we can reduce and prevent global warming to a great extent. Switch to public transport or carpool with others to lessen the emission of pollutants in the air. Try walking shorter distances.

Furthermore, do not buy a new car frequently. Try to use your old for as long as you can. However, if it is rather important, consider buying a hybrid one. After that, never forget to recycle whenever you can. Similarly, buy recycled items to reduce wastage in the environment. You must also dispose of organic waste properly instead of throwing it away irresponsibly.

Most importantly, quit using plastic. Try to buy fresh food which has little packaging. Also, do not waste electricity. Turn off the lights and fans as well as unplug the appliances when not in use. Always carry reusable bags with yourself, it will help in avoiding plastic use. Moreover, even if you do use plastic, try to reuse it and recycle it for the betterment of nature and prevent global warming.
